As as iti 'These, for some reason, .are selling Sunday Evening a whole, game sells now about did a year ago, rabbits excepted. from five to "ten centffiiigher than last ear, and this, (is hard to explain, for they! are no better than they were and seem to be more plentiful. All! fniits except Ihe lower grades of apples are from fifteen to thirty per cent, higher than they were at the be ginnini of the year. The lower grades of apples are more plentiful than they were a year ago, and owing to weath er conditions when they were on the treesi the crop of 1906 Is not in as good keeping condition . as was its predcossor; hence holders are anx ious o get rid of their stocks asj early as possible, and a flooded market has lowered the prices. This does not apply to the fancy apples or, the strict ly choice. They, like most other com modities, are selling higher than they did a year ago. j (Potatoes that 'twelve months ago sold' at wholesale for forty to fifty cents per bushel now readily ! bring sixty! to seventy." Even old Virginia peas' are thirty per cent, higher. Vegetables, j AI vegetables have been marked up, but just why nobody Is able to ex plairl. The cost of production was no higher this year than last, and the supply is, and has been ever since summer, larger than it was for the corresponding period of last year. Perhaps vegetables have been marked up that they may keep in ;he fashion witn everything else that people have to cat nowadays, j j j Flour is about the same price It was a year ago, but -nothing like as higji as it was eighteen months to two years ago. Two years ago; wheat was selling for $1.15 to $1.17 per bushel, and now It Is selling at seventy-seven to -eighty cents. However, corn and me'al are higher than hey were last December, as are all other standard foodstuffs, except such as are made from wheat.
