the house from basement to attic and
then retired without taking uny article;
save some biscuit and venison. He
was heard by some of the children up
stairs, who were too badly frightened
to make any alarm. What the intru
der was in search of we cannot con
jecture, unless it was what he obtain
ed. But he evidently had no regard
for life, else'he would'not have so bold
ly jeopardized it.

Some time during the campaign, the

feloniously and two overcoats, a pair
of gloves, a raizor, pair of police nip
pers and $25 or $30 in silver and cop
pers taken therefrom. The SberifFand

last Andrew Hall, a colored individu

probability the nippers in Hall's pos

Marshal, and Jas. Brown, Depnty Sher
iff, then repaired to the home of Alex.
Murphy, the' re.-idence of Hall; and on
meeting the latter inquired if he found
a pair of nippers? Hall acknowledged
that he had, but stated that lie did not
then have them. 'During this conver
sation with one of the officers, the oth
er entere'd the house, and therein found
the two, stolen overcoats; whereupon
Hall was arrested, brought to town and
lodged in jail. The accused, in some!

for the pleasure and benefit of the
pupils of the Methodist Sunday School,
on Tuesday evening the 2Gtli at Fay

order that the friends of the school
may be present and enjoy the festivi
ties of the occasion the committee has
inaugurated a programme of music,
refreshments, &c, fcc., the latter, of
which will be furnished" at small cost
to those who may chose to partake.
The whole affair will be splendid, and

IIev. Mr. Crawford, the new pastor
of the Methodist Church, will arrive
with' his family by train this evening.
