Tkoratoa Purchaser. The Hotel LaFayette, one of the most valuable hotel properties in North. Carolina, wai bought last week by Messrs. M.McI. Matthews, present manager and lessee, and F. W. Thorn ton, prominent business man. The sale gives a clear title to all the prop erty, absorbing mortgage of the Bank of Fayetteville for $36,500, and the property interests of Col. J. B. Starr, the largest shareholder; F. W. Thorn ton, and the estate of the late Capt A. B. Williams. The new owners will at once make intensive liraprovements, increasing even its present popularity. . The ' lobby, stores, offices, and barber shop will be laid With mosaic or tesselated pavements, with galvanized sheet . ceiling overhead, and a system of fine baths installed in the hotel. The following is taken from the Wilmington Star of last week, and the Observes reechoes the good wishes of that paper in the matter : It will be of interest to his troops of friends in this section of the State to learn that Hon. Chas. M. Stedman left ' Greensboro yesterday for New York, whence he sails for Liverpool on the steamship Etrnria next Satur day. ' He will be absent about six weeks on important professional bus iness, being counsel in a case in volving' very large pecuniary inter ests. It is very gratifying to his friends and admirers that he has been retained in a case of such magnitude and has been entrusted with fcneb an important mission.
