was the last survivor of a large family

The subject of this notice was a

gallant Confederate soldiers, forming
as they did, part of an army whose

OBITUARY.
Fayettevllle, N. C, May e. 1907.
Mrs. Addie McDiarmld. wife of Mr.
M. S. MrDiarmid, and daughter of Mr.
W. E. Williford, departed this life
May 2nd. 1907.
This fond and loving wife, daughter,
sister and 'friend died where woman
hood' morning almost touched noon
and while the shadows still were fall
ing toward the west She did not pass
on life' highway the stones) that mark
the highest points, but being weary
for a moment she lay down by the way.
side and using her burdens for a pil
low she fell Into that dreamless sleep
that kisses down her eyelids still.
Had the skilled hands of physician
and care of watchful loved ones avail
ed, she would not have died; but God
knew the storm of thia life would
blight this tender flower, so He trans
planted her to bloom in the Paradise
of God, where Immortal flowers bloom
and crystal waters gush forth from
exhan8tless fountains.
A little less than a year ago she
and Mr. McDiarmld were united In
matrimony, and have since enjoyed
life In their comfortable and quiet
country home near the little town of
Raeford. Love was the lord of their
happy home and every shadow of
sorrow waa banished by her frequent
smiles and gentle words.
She was ever by her husband's aide
teaching him to yield to the storms
of life that he might not be broken
by them.
She was a young lady of about 28
summers, and a devoted christian.
holding her membership with the Leb
anon Baptist church. She aided with
the poor, the weak and the oppressed
and lovingly gave alms. In every
storm of life she was oak and rock.
but In the sunshine vine and flower.
She added to the sum of human Joy.
If every one to whom she did some
loving service would bring a blossom
to her grave, she would sleep to-day
Denes Lh a wilderness of flowers.
The burial ceremonies were conduct
ed by Dr. J. J. Hall, In which he tried
to revive the sinking spirits of the be
reaved.
It waa a touching scene to look Into
the casket of this young wife with a
wreath of flowers upon her breast and
a new born babe upon either aide of
her. We cannot understand why God
would take from our midst a young
lady that was in meridian of life;
right In the happiest sunniest hour of
the voyage; but it matters not
whether in mid-sea or among the
breakers of a farther shore, death at
but must mark the end of one and aiL
It matters not though every hour of
life may be rich with love, and every
moment Jeweled with a Joy, at life's
close all will be a tragedy, as deep
and dark and aad aa could be woven
of the warp and woof of the majesty
or a earn. lAle is a narrow vale. We
strive in vain to look beyond the
heights, but the only answer is the
echo of our walling voice.
With grieved hearts we offer her
body to the silent dust We extend
our kindest sympathies to . the be
reaved ones and hope they will strive
to meet her in the realms of eternal
bliss. J. It WILLIFORD.
