The Incorporators are A. D. McQlU, John H. Currle, B. T. McBryde, a. A. MacKethan and J. A. MacKethan, of Fayettevllle; Hamilton McMillan, of Red Springs; D. P. McEachern. of Red Springs; A. W. McLean, of Lumber toa. , , The purposes of the society as set forth In the act of Incorporation are': The undersigned persons, desiring to associate themselves Into a corpo ration, not for pecuniary profit, pur suant to chapter twenty-one of the Revlsel of nineteen hundred and five, laws of the Bute of North Carolina, do hereby certify as follows: 1. That the name by which this cor poration shall be known in law la "The Scottish Society of America In corporated." 2. That the purposes fortwbtch it la formed are: 1 (a) To cultivate a knowledge of .and' preserve the history and tradl .'. tlons of the, Scottish people In Amer ica mnA AanAflallv nf fha Srntttali AAt- tlements In the Cape Fear section of North Carolina; (b) The promotion and cultivation of closer social intercourse between persons of Scottish descent In Anier lea; - (c) To rescue from oblivion the val uable remains of Scottish history In America; (d) To encourage the immigration, of Scotchmen, from Scotland, to Am erica, and generally to revive, foster and promote Scottish interests and ' sentiments by collecting and preserv- ' lng records and traditions in any way relating to that peopll 3. The aald corporation shall have no capital stock. 4. -The following persons shall, be eligible o memoersnip in saia corpo ratism -V (a) Natives of Scotland and their descendants; (b) Ail Americao born persons of Scottish descent, either male or fe male; (c) Husbands of women, and wives of men, falling under any of the . above descriptions. 5. 'The membership shall consist .if patrons, life members, ordinary mem- . bera, 'and honorary members. The payment at one time of the sum of fifty dollars ($30.00) shall constitute a patron, and they shall be exempt froa 'further dues. Payment at one time of the sum of fifteen dollars ($15.00) shall constitute jl life member, and life members shall be exempt from all fur ther dues, and shall enjoy all the rights of membership. The ordinary member shall pay annually such sum as the by-laws may prescribe. Hon orary members shall consist of such persons of SeottUh descent as may be elected honorary members from time : to time, and all of whom shall reside - in ioreign lanqs. Honorary memoers sha.l be exempt .from, all dues. La dies who are eligible may become .. , , member by contributing one-half of the above-named dues applicable to each class of 'membership, respective ly. 6. The affairs of the society shall I managed by an executive council ( nine- members, consisting of the pres- - Ident, the three vice-presidents, the secretary and treasurer,, and four other members of the executive coun cil shall constitute a quorum to do - business,. All business transacted by the executive council shall be reported to the next' general meeting of the so , ciety, and at said meeting a majority of the members present may approve or disapprove any such action taken. The charter and -first" by-laws of the society shall be adopted by the ex ecu- - tlve council, but the said by-laws snail be subject to amendment or repeal by the society at any general meeting. '7. The officers of the society shall be the president, three rice-presidents, j, secretary and treasurer, and an exeo- stive council of (9) members, includ - lng the president, the three vice-pres-- identa and the secretary, who shall be . ex -officio members of the executive council The executive council may appoint such other subordinate officers aa from time' to time may be deemed necessary. . Textile Department, A. A M. College. Prof. Nelson, director, asks us to publish the following: "For the benefit of mill men the Textile Department will give special courses in carding and spinning, plain and fancy weaving, and designing, be- glnlng January, 1911. These courses will be thoroughly practical and will cover period of about eight weeks. Tor a mill man who wanta to learn something of another department In the mill this is a good opportunity. No charge is made tor tuition and the total expense, including board, room rent, etc, will not be more than 13 per weekT .'. "No entrance examinations are re quired for these courses." H. McD. Robinson, John Hol mes, Prank Marsh, Jno. H. ' Currle, J. H. McPhatl, Jno. W. Moore. W. M. Walker, and W. J. Olive. This committee will be called togeth er within the next, ten days to draft a bill. and arrange for a full meeting early In January. Fayettevllle, Dec. 20, 1910. HOPE MILLS NEWS. Hope Mills. N. C, Dec. 20. Mr., A. D. McGill ana Rev. Mr. Cockran made addresses in the Presbyterian' church here Sunday evening in the Interest of the Southern Presbyterian College at Red Springs. . Rev. N. McDonald, of Stedman, N. C has been appointed pastor of the Hope Mills circuit ' He succeeds Rev. J. D. Pegram, who h5 moved to Sted man to succeed Mr. McDonald as pas tor there. Christmas entertainments will be given at all the churches on next Sat urday evening. Mr. E. B. Slack, operator at Natal, signal station on the A. C. L. about tour miles north ' of Hope Ml.ls, fell from the tower Saturday night and was very badly iDjjeU. He was sent to the Higlnmlih hospital. Mr. Slack has many friends here who will be glad to note his condition ls not ser ous. On Monday alurnoon Mr. John Mc Call, aged abcuty 70 Vars, who has been afflicted with rheumatism for sev eral years, died in his home about four miles west of this place. The funeral will take place at Galatia Presbyterian church Wednesday morning. Mr. Mc- Call was we 1 thought of by everyone who knew him. THE NORTH CAROLINA CHIL DREN'S HOME SOCIETY. The Observer has received a circu lar in 'regard to the "Nroth Carolina Children's Home Society," and gladly and. heartily endorses the appeal for contributions to such noble work. The Christmas season touches the heart as no other time can, for the Christ Child God's best gift to mor tals came, to make the who'e world glad; and so, for His sake it Is, that all people everywhere try to make the children happy on Christmas " Day. And shall not Christians, do tie beet for our. own little ones, by teaching them the lesson of the Holy Child of Bethlehem? the lesson of love, of giv ing? - .'. . ' ... God so oved the world that He gave His only Son ' And so we ask that all happy children who hear this ap peal. Will give something this Christ, mas to make some other little boy or girl happy, who has no dear father or mother to care for them and "fill their stockings,', but they will know that they have friends who love them, and then they too will be able to join in the Christmas Angels' song: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.' Snoddy to be postmistress at Red Springs, which be sent to the Senate last week for confirmation..
