Miss Enily H. Walker, superintend
ent of the "home service" feature of
the Red Cross work in North Caro
lina, met with a number of men and
women Saturday and inaugurated a
movement for the employment of a
full-time home service secretary for
Henderson county.
Miss Walker gave an interesting
and instructive talk relative to the
home service work of the Red Cross
and so impressed her audience with
its importance that a committee was
named to make a survey of the situa
tion with a view to selecting a secre
tary to give full time to the work.
The home service and civilian relief
work of the Red Cross has increased
of late, even since the close of the
war, and with other features of Red
Cross work growing less urgent it
was deemed an opportune time to
join the national movement for ren
dering every possible aid to returning
soldiers, to their families and to those
vitally affected in any way by the
war; to the adjusting of claims, pen
sions and allied phases o frelief, etc.
Dr. A. C. Tebeau, Red Cross chair
man, appointed the following commit
tee to organize the work : F. E. Curtis,
Mrs. J. F. Brooks, Mrs. L. M. Colt,
Mrs. W. R Kirk, Noah Hollowell.
The committee after considering
the situation decided that sufficient
funds were in hand to begin the work
and that it would be partially self-
sustaining in Red Cross membership
and that the importance of the work
would naturally appeal to the people
to such an extent that further finan
cial aid could be had when necessary.
The committee will endeavor to select
a secretary who will be given a free
course in Atlanta before undertaking
the work at home.

on the Victory Loan.
Mr. Ewbank has made an urgent
appeal for helpers and has worked
hard but in vain in the effort to get
a representative committee over the
county. Promises of help have been
few, but it is hoped to raise a little
enthusiasm at the meeting Thursday
night.
The quota for Henderson county
is approximately $180,000.
