The rush, push and strenaous ne of the American people has a strong tendency to lead up to valvular and other affections of the heart, attended by ir regular action, palpitation, dizziness, smothered sensations and other distress In? symptoms. . Three of the prominent tefredients of which Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Dis covery is made are recommended by some of the leading writers on Materia Medtca for the cure of just such cases. Golden Sal root, for instance, U said by the D sited States Dispessatoet, a stand ard authority, "to impart tone and in creased power to the heart's action. Numerous other leading authorities rep resent Golden Seal as an unsurpassed tonic for the muscular system in general, and as the heart is almost wholly com posed of muscular tissue, it naturally follows that it must be greatly strength ened by this superb, general tonic Bat probably the most important ingredient of -Golden Medical Discovery " so far as its marvelous cures of valvular and other affections of the heart are con cerned, is Stone root, or Colllnvmia Can.. Prof. Wm. Paine, author of Paine s Epitomy of Medicine, says of it: I. not Ion since, had a patient who was so much oppressed with slrular disease ?f the heart that his friends were obliged to carry him op-stairs. He, howerer. rradoally recovered under the influence of Collinsonin (medicinal principle extracted from Stone root), and is now attending- to his business. Heretofore physicians knew of no remedy lor the remoral of so distressing and so dan gerous a malady. With them it was all guess-work, and it fearfully warned the afflicted that death was near at hand. Col linsonin unquestionably affords relief in such cases, and in most instances effects a entree Stone root is also recommended by Drs. Hale and Ellingwood, of Chicago, for valvular and other diseases of the heart. The latter says: "It is a heart tonic of direct and permanent influence." Golden Medical Discovery," not only cures serious heart affections, but is a most efficient general tonic and invigor ator, strengthening the stomach, invig orating the liver, regulating the bowels and curing catarrhal affections in all parts of the system. Dr. Pierce Pellets cure Constipation. From Country Correspondents Bat Cave Briefs. It has been quite awhile since I hare at tempted to write anything for The Hus tler, however, I have been adiligeBt reader of its columns. The farmers of this section are consider ably behind with their farm work, owing to the continued rainfall for the past four weeks, The corn crops are looking rea sonably fair at present, which giret the fanners some encouragement. Vollie Barnwell has returned home, af ter spending about six months in the far west. There is no place like home for Vollie. Tan bark will soon be a thing of the past in this section, since Claude Freeman has got to pulling the reins over Pete and Bill, a span of little mules. I am sure the democratic party did the right thing in selecting Hon. W. T. Craw ford as its standard bearer in the tenth district I am of the opinion that he will strengthen the ticket at least fifty votes in this county. A traveling gentleman who has been a guest at the Bat Cave hotel made the re mark recently that he could get better fare there than be could get any house be bad ever tried where they charged $2.00 per day. That is a good aecommendation for Mr. Freeman as he doesn't charge any thing like $2 00 per day for board at his place. We would be pleased U learn of the whereabouts of "Cousin Lucy Long. She used to write such interesting letters for the Hostler. Write again, Lucy PXTKE ShACILKFOOT. Roosevelt and Maxwell. We are sorry to 'relate the death of Mrs. Hester Barnwell, who died July 5, and was laid to rest in Edneyville graveyard. Services were conducted by Rev. Perry, of Fruitland. J, Sumner, fell from the top of a wagon loaded with tan bark, near Biltmore last Thursday evening, he wagon passing over one of his legs and breaking it twice below the knee. Henry is in the hoepital at Bilt more, and fears are entertained that the leg will have to be amputated. Mrs. Go8sit and Miss Bessie Morrison are up from Spartanburg to spend a few weeks. Miss Estella Grant has gone to Hender sonville to attend the teachars' association this week. Bud Connar has been suffering with ma larial fever contracted while in Southern Georgia. Beau the Ittnaie Care. "To keep the body in tune," writes Mrs. Mary Brown, 20 Lafayette Place, Pough keepsie,N.Y. "Hake Dr. King's New Life Pills. They are the most reliable and pleasant laxative I have found." v Best for the Stomach, Liver and Bowels. Guaran teed by Justus Pharmacy. 25c TYPHOID FEVER. Although there Is always" more or less typhoid fever In most of the larger cities of this country, the late summer and autumn are the. seasons when it is most to be feared. The disease i3 not so formidable, as regards the mortality, as some others, but its great length and the evil conse quences which sometimes follow it in the fovm of weak heart, weak spine or nervous disorders make it quite as se rious as some which are more fatal, but far less protracted. Unless one knows how the disease is usually spread one cannot hope to avoid it, and so it may be useful to consider in what ways the germs of the malady find their way into the sys tem. -" Water Is the usual vehicle for ty phoid germs, as is well known, and probably all great outbreaks of the dis ease In cities are due to an infected water supply. This has been strikingly shown In Philadelphia, where some parts of the city are supplied with fil tered water and others with unfiltered or mixed water, Comparing two parts of the city in which the conditions, ex cept as to water supply, are almost the same, it was found that in the one sup plied with filtered water the occurrence rate of typhoid fever was one in five thousand, while in the others, in which the unfiltered water was drunk; It was one in sixteen hundred. But a city with an ideal water sup ply may be scourged with typhoid fever, although less severely, through the medium of impure ice, and It Is al most as important to know where the Ice Is cut, or with what water it Is made. If artificial, as where the city water comes from. Not long since a number of officers on one of the United States ships In the Mediterranean squadron were taken down with ty phoid fever. When the source of the Infection was traced it was found to be some ice bought at Athens, the Ice ma chine on shipboard having broken lown. ' Another source of infection is found In oysters that have been fattened in streams contaminated with sewage. Not only has typhoid followed the eat ing of these fish, but the typhoid bacilli have been found in the stomachs of the oysters. Raw vegetables used for salads may have been grown In soil contaminated with slops ued as fertilizers or may have been washed in infected water. Unless a water supply is above sus picion all that ued for drinking, tooth cleaning and in the kitchen should be boiled and the drinking water cooled by putting vessels containing it on the Ice, not by putting Ice In the water it self. Finally, great care should be taken to screen all food from flies, for if there is a case of typhoid fever in the neighborhood flies may become most active distributers of the poison. Youth's Companion. Her Dilemma. A Doniphan county woman who was 111 and found herself in a trying posi tion explained her woe to a friend. "You see. my daughter Harriet mar ried one of these homeypath doctors and my daughter Kate an allypath. If I call the homeypath my allypath son-in-law and hi3 wife will get mad, an' if I call my allypath son-in-law then my homeypath son-in-law an' his wife will get mad, an If I go ahead an jt well without either of "'em then they'll both be mad, so I don't see but I've got to die outright' Troy (Kan.) Chief. " Echoes. Every one Is familiar with the phe nomenon of echoes. In a cave in the Pantheon the guide, by striking the flap of his coat, makes a noise equal to a twelve pound cannon's report. The singularity is noticed in a lesser de gree in the Mammoth cave In Ken tucky. In the' cave of Smellin. near Viborg. In Finland, a cat or dog thrown In will make a screaming echo lasting some minutes. Miss Florence Shepherd is at Lake Toxaway. JUOTEECEIVED Biggest Shipment of Hamilton-Brown. A sweet breath adds to the joy of a kiss. You wouldn't want to kiss your wife, moth er or sweetheart with a bad breath. You cant have a sweet breath without a healthy stomach. You cant have a healthy stom ach without perfect digestion. They are active, vigorous little creatures, mild eyed as domestic calves, but possessing much greater strength and endurance. In a few seconds after birth they can get on their feet, and in twenty minutes they are fit to fight for their lives. Usually it is unnecessary for them to defend themselves at this tender age. as a buffalo cow is quite capable of at tending to any business which may arise in connection with the defense of her precious baby.
