Now With Kidnaping
With a laughing, blue-eyed
babe in his arms, lor the sup
posed murder of which Tom
Childs now languishes in Green
ville jail, big Deputy Sheriff Conf
nor stepped from the train, Mon
day, and gave up his precious
burden into the arms of, Pellam
Corn, the child's father.
Last Friday, in Greenville, a
warrant was sworn out charging
Mrs. Pellam Corn, the 18-year-old
wife of Pellam Corn, of this
county, and Tom Childs with the
murder of Bennie Ixmise Corn,
the two-year-old daughter of
Mrs. iorn. ine' warrant was
sworn out by Pellam Corn, the
woman's husband, who alleged
that his wife had deserted him
and was living with Childs and
that Childs had been heard to
say he intended to make way
with the little girl.
Now the charge against Childs
will not be murder, but kidnap
ing, and Pellam Corn has gone
to Greenville to prosecute the
accused man.
It is said that Childs eloped
with Mrs. Corn from Henderson
ville on last Tuesday, that the
woman left him in Spartanburg
and returned to Canton with the
child. Deputy Connor, with
Pellam Corn followed her to that
town, recovered the child after a
heartrending scene with its
girl-mother, and returned to
Hendersonville on Monday,,, leav
ing Mrs. Corn in Canton. Ben
nie Louise, still laughing and
merry, is now with M,rs. Corn's
mother at her home on the Clear
Creek Road, and Mr. Corn has
returned to Greenville to prose
cute the charge of kidnaping
against Tom Childs, who no
longer rests under the awful
shadow of alleged murder.
Pellam Corn, the son of Avery
Corn, deceased, was born and
raised in Henderson county.
About three years ago he met his
girl wife, the daughter of John
Wright, of Madison county.
After a brief courtship they were
married and then Bennie Louise
came to gladden their little home
and all the world looked bright
to the young husbund and wife.
For a long time he worked at
lravelers Rest, in the employ of
W. M. Wing. Last Fall they
moved to Greenville, where they
met Tom Childs, and the . first
Vua tell over their wedded
bliss. Three weeks ago they
came to Hendersonville followed
by Childs, who, it is said, on last
Tuesday eloped with the young
Jte to Spartanburg, where the
sieged threat ahnnf. t.hp rhilH ia
said to have been made.
Mrs. Lorn, tplcincr hor r?nntrh

This Paper Published Correct
Copies of the Late La
mented Road Bills.
The information comes to me
that the Hustler is being charged
with having published a "gar
bled" report of the Ray road bill
for Henderson county, introduced
in the State Senate during the
recent session of the General As
sembly, for the purpose of mis
reprepresenting the author of the
bill. If there be any individuals
who are disposed to place cre
dence in such a canard, I wish to
call their attention to the fact
that exact , copies of both the
bills are now on file in the Hustler
office, for the benefit of those de
sirous of satisfying themselves
personally about the matter. A
comparison of the bills with this
paper's report will show the utter
absurdity of such a statement,
and that no objectionable feature
of the bill reported in the paper
was eliminated at any time by
the party who introduced it.
I had considered my part of the
controversy closed, but the charge
referred to is so unfair to this
newspaper it shall not pass un
challenged. The willful and malicious lies
that have been circulated con
cerning me personally, and my
position in the matter, by the au
thor of the bill, are unbecoming
a gentleman and beneath the no
tice of one, and, but for the con
tinued misrepresentations of this
newspaper, I should have had
nothing further to say.
' Let the "people compare the
bilks on file in the Hustler office,
with the paper's report of them,
na aeciae ior themselves wnetn
