Hotel Gates are Dr. Eben Alex
anderand wife of Chapel Hill.

Greek in the State University.

Editor A. Roscower, of tha
Goldsboro Headlight arrived yes
terday afternoon with his family
for an indefinite sojourn in this
city. They are guests of the
Etotel Gates. Mr. Roscower ex
presses great surprise at the re
markable growth of Henderson
ville since his last visit here six
years ago.
T. K. Davis, the capable ma
chinist of the Charlotte Obsei
7er, is in Hendersonville for a
short stay, Mrs. Davis, is with
relatives in Asheville for the
summer and Mr. Davis will
spend awhile there before re
turning to his post of duty.
Tom looks fine and friends will
be glad to hear that the health
of Mrs. Davis has greatly improved.

arrested yesterday at the South
ern depot by Chief McCarson arid
Deputy Sheriff Powers upon a
warrant sworn out by the author
ities of Landrum, S. C. The ne
gro, who certainly looks to be a
desperate one, is wanted in that
place for knocking down a police
man with a rock.
It has been rumored in the
city of Asheville that the Hen
dersonville Planets will have a
considerable shake-up in the line
np after the Carolina Association
closes. It is even reported that
some of the best players in that
league will sign up with Hender
son ville. The local authorities
have not confirmed any such re
port and it is not likely that they
will until the men have been se
cured. ,

mer's Institute held at Fletcher
last week was a very interesting

Mr. J, B. Garrard has returned
to his home in Ocean Springs,
Miss., after having spent the
past six weeks in the country at

Miss Annie McCarver, who

been spending the past few weeks
here, returns to her home, in

Mr. J. R. McGee, a popular

has arrived in the city and is

the sale of packing space for the

seeing that diamond ring on her
finger soon after the contest
closes. It is rumored that the
Fletcherites are going to do some

Shot While Hunting.

The 16-year old son of John
Hill, Zirconia, was shot, Satur
day, bv Hilliard Tabor, about the
same age, with whom he wasfLactfes
hunting.
The boy is not seriously wound
ed and will recover. -
They were hunting squirrels
and were in a corn field at the
time. Tabor mistook his com
panion's head for a squirrel, and
emptied his gun in that direction.
About 40 bird shot took effect in
the boy's head, neck and shoul
der. Dr. Kirk" was summoned,
made a quick trip there and says
the boy will recover.
