OUTLINE OF BACCALAUREATE (The soul of him was. taken op in dirt, crfpat.pr hams, and the . thouerht oi Then God said "thou fool." SERMON BY MR. MOORES. The outline of the baccalaureate germon, which was delivered by Rev. M. F. Moores to the Blue Ridge School for Boys at the Methodist church Sunday before last, is as fol lows: , Man is God's masterpiece. You can't be anything greater. "What is man that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a lit tle lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor." Jesus called himself the Son of Man. There was nothing on earth that could represent greatness in a I larger measure. "The captain of our salvation was made perfect through .suffering;" in this was the perfection of his manhood. Humboldt says, "The finest fruit earth holds up to its Maker is a finished man." In the beginning God said, "Let us make man in our image" and He has been endeavoring to make men ever since. The ultimate reason for the existence the earth with every living creature, every flower that blooms, every blade of grass and every tree that buds is man, who is to glorify God. God made some tall men under the ancient regulations of His people Abraham, Moses, Dainel, Isaiah and many another, but today, after the crucifixion of their Savior, His people are scattered to the four corners of the earth and there is not a leader among them. Greece at one time endeavored to make men. And she made men Plato, the giant intellect of the ages, Aristotle, Herodotus, Demosthenes and others who still live, but she seems to have lost the power to pro duce men. The United States has al ways produced men. But whatever nations may do, the question for you young men is, "What shall I make?" Nebuchadnezzer made a city of splendor and beauty with its hanging gardens and its palaces, and with pride boasted of his achievements, but the soul of him had been drawn out into bitumen, and mortar, palaces and hanging gardens. He made a city but lost his higher self and nothing but the brute was left. Then he ate grass like an ox. Another person of Bible record, in stead of making a man, made a fool. CUP THIS AND PIN . This kind of rough talk will be heaad less here in town if people troubled with corns will follow the simple advice of this Cincinnati authority, who claims that a few drops of a drug called freezone when applied to a tender, aching corn or hardened cal 1, stops soreness at once, and soon the KHrf callus dries up and lifts right fOff A)u Pain- He say t?eerZ?n$ dries Immediately ;and never mfiames cf Ep. irritates the surrounding skin. If your druggist doesn't .have freezone tell him to order a small bottle for you. 9 THICK, GLOSSY HAIR FREE FROM DANDRUFF Girls! Try it! Hair gets soft, fluffy and beautiful Get a small bottle of Danderine. If yxm care for heavy hair that glis tens with beautv and i3 radiant with life; has an incomparable softness and is fluffy and lustrous, try Danderine. Just one application doubles the beauty of your hair, besides it imme diately dissolves every particle of dandruff. You can not have nice heavy, healthy hair if you have dandruff. This destructive scurf robs the hair of its lustre, its strength and its very life, and if not overcome it produces a fever ishness and itching of the scalp; the hair roots famish, loosen and die; then the hair falls out fast. Surely get a small bottle of Knowltorra Danderine from any drug store and just try it. .ease. The ultimate reason for the exist ence of any city with its temples and palaces, its parks, or hanging gardens 5s man, and the ultimate reason for fertile soil and big barns and cattle is man, to glorify his Maker. Nothing can keep you from making a man. Diocletian who became an il lustrious emperor of Rome was born of parents who had been slaves in the house of a Roman senator. Maximian was born a peasant. Daniel was a saint and a hero in spite of his enslavement at Babylon. He was a non-conformist. The three Hebrew children were non-conformist. Emerson says, "Whoso would be a man must be a non-conformist." Think and do what is right without conformity to custom or conventional thinking. Conformity destroys indi viduality. A real man is greater than his en vironment, and rises above it. COPY OF HENDERSONVILLE PAPER PUBLISHED IN 1865. T. E. Osborne, of the Horse Shoe section, exhibited to the Hustler on Saturday a copy of the Henderson ville Times, published by Samuel P. Brittain on Feb. 2, 1865. Those were war times and the Times sold for only $20 a year. A few news notes would restore to memory of older residents things of long ago, such as the marriage of Pinkney Johnson, now a resident of the Yale section, to Miss Julia Jones, by Rev. Mr. Burnett; and the wed lock of G. W. Jones to Miss Elizabeth Cagle, by Rev. James Blythe. W. D. Miller was commissary agent and he served notice in the Times that supplies were scarce and that the government would take possession of the surplus and that people should brinng in all their products to Hen dersonville and get the benefit of a local appraisement in value. Mr. Miller was the father of Davis, Tom and Will Miller, residents of this county. NORMAN MILLER'S EQUIPMENT. Norman Miller has installed new nd modern machinery so that he may be able to compete with the shortage of labor and the increased demand of summer work. The machinery in his cleaning, pressing and tailoring establishment is very unique within itself. It conr sists of a filter, which cleans the gaso line that is to be .used. There are two cleaning machines, one cleans with steam, while the other one uses i gas and a dry soap. DR. E. E. BOMAR, - " ,,Arf (From Biblical Recorder.) We are delighted to know that our good friend, Dr. E. E. Bomar, has en tered upon his work as pastor of the First Baptist church of Henderson ville. Dr. Bomar is a fine worker, a good preacher of the gospel, and a useful citizen of any community in which he lives. We extend him a hearty welcome to our State. LEMONS WHITEN AND BEAUTIFY THE SKIN WALTER SMITH DOING WELL IN FRANCE. The following from Major Coe will be of interest to friends and rela tives of Walter Smith: Mrs. W.. A. Smith, ' . Hendersonville, N. C. : My Dear Mrs. Smith: .; . , Thought I would take a minute or two to tell you that the boy is doing fine and looking fine. He is doing good work and making good in every way. Just recently been given two different, rather im portant missions, one of which took him to the south of France. On this mission he was required to act as his own interpreter and that he brought his outfit back in good time and in. good shape speaks well for his ability to learn language. He seems to have the perfect good will of the field officers of the regi ment, which was evidenced by his ad vancement to master engineer, senior grade, and his more recent recom mendation for a commission as sec ond lieutenant in the regiment. With best regards for Mr. Smith and the girls, I am, Yours sincerely, C. S. COE, 17 Engineers Reg. Am. Exp. Forces, France. A. P. O. 701. - SPEAKING AT EDNEYVILLE. G. B.
