( 1 i h i. I I 1 fv THURSDAY. DECEMBER 4, 1919 The HENDERSONVILLE NEWS Published Every Wednesday NOAH HOLLOWELL Editor Subscription Kates: One Year $1.00 Six Months 50 Three Months 25 The best way to have athing done is to do it, the truth of which Hender sonville is about to realize with re ference to the building of hotels. o ; ; Hendersonville is progressing as never before and there is no better way to keep up with its progress than through its leading local newspaper. Save money by subscribing before the price advances. . o Transylvania county is getting in dead earnest for a railroad to connect with southern points. A big mass meeting was held and a committee was appointed to raise funds for a preliminary survey. o Friends of The News who have a custom of subscribing for their friends are reminded that all subscriptions will be payable in advance after next month and that the price will be raised from $1.00 to $1.50. o Save a few dollars , by subscribing for The News in advance for a few years at the $1.00 rate. Five-year subscriptions will be permitted for $5.00. After December 31 all sub scriptions will be at the rate of $1.50 .and collectable in advance. o The Marion Progress names J. W. Winborne as the logical man to be elected to the judgship to fill out the unexpired term of the late Judge Jus tice. The News has had out a candi date a long time in the person of Major Michael Schenck. Who else has a candidate? o The wholesale houses are now deal ing out blank newspaper as though it were sugar only 500 pounds to the customer. This amount will not go far. And you have to pay 8 cents a pound when it used to be about 5 cents. How much longer could a $1.00 newspaper that is worthy of Its name be expected to survive? Better renew before the advance in subscription rates . Always pulling for Morganton the News-Herald of that place points put that Morganton. would be the most logical place for one of the two hos pitals it says the Baptists are going to build in this state as a result of the 75 million campaign. Please don't muddy the waters, Sister Cobb, nor count the chickens before the eggs are hatched. But, of course, we will raise our six millions, and the early bird may get the worm. o The News has been delayed in get1 ting statements to suDscribers of The News before its consolidation with the Hustler as to the exact ampunt due under the then prevailing price of 50 cents a year while the paper was in its pink dress. Statements will within a" few days be mailed to those who were in arrears. Subscribers are requested to renew promptly as the price will advance with the "be ginning of the year 1920. Republican politics has begun to pick up a little activity. L. L. Jen kins, candidate for congress, has opened offices in Asheville. We ob serve by our exchanges that he is covering various sections of the dis trict in person. The Franklin Press in an innocent looking item said that he was visiting in Franklin but did not mix him up with politics. It is stated that he was impressed with the Bap tist church building in process of erec tion in Franklin that he made a dona tion of one thousand dollars . If he Is loosening up with the coin like that Hendersonville had ought to invite him to come over and build a hotel. Brownlow Jackson wouldn't care. -o- NOTICE Notice to unpaid Taxpayers. Please pay your, taxes during the month of December' and save the penalty of one per cent for each month which will go on commencing Jan., 1st, 1920 and continue until paid, according to Laws of 1919. , '' - Very respectfully, - A. This material is the Genuine Liquid Lime & Sulphur dried by a pa tented process, taking out the 50 per cent or more of water on which you have to pay freight. It is not a substitute such as many preparations put on the market under similar names. A can weighing 100 pounds of Dry Lime Sulfur is equal to a barrel of the Liquid Lime and Sulphur weighing 600 pounds. It dissolves easily in water and is" equally as effective as the liquid. This- has been on the market for several years and has been thoroughly, tested . We sold a large quantity of it last year and our customers have expressed themselves as being vry much pleased with it and thoroughly satisfied as to its effectiveness and economy in use. , Two pounds of the Dry Lime Sulfur is equal to a gallon of the liquid. This material is recommended for us the same as the liquid Lime and Sulphur to control the San Jose Scale, and should be applied any time dur ing the winter or early spring before the buds begin to swell, using 10 to 14 pound to 50 gallons of water. For bad cases of Scale we advise an ap plication in the fall immediately after the leaves disappear and in the early spring before the buds begin to swell. For orchards that have no scale it is advised to use this preparation in the dormant season to prevent be ale and to keep the treea in a healthy condition, as it is a preventative and cure for other forms of fungu-3 disease. Taking the freight into consideration, you will find this more reasonable than the liquid lime and sulphur and much venient to handle. Write for circular and prices. T. S. MORRISON & CO.
