term Noma Carolina Time Hendersonville, North Carolina, November 6, 1914 Number 31 Volume XXIX Wei REPUBLICAN VICTORY the Vanishing Point Democratic Majority in House is Reduced to BRITT ELECTED BY BIG MAJORIIY The voters have spoken, and the is no mistaking their verdict. The Democratic majority in the National House of Repre sentatives is almost wiped out. Early reports indicated thattthe majority would be reduced from nearly 150 to about 30. Later reports gave 23 as the probable majority; whole there are indications that when the official count is made, the figures may dwindle to 1 5 or to 1 0 or to 0. r,J9 New York State is overwhelmingly j Republican, and has electedJC. S. Whitman for Governor and J. W. Wadsworth for U. S. Senator. Our own Congressional district has come out on the right side, and J. j. Britt is elected by a majority of nearly 1 ,000. Henderson county is Republican from top to bottom. The whole county ticket is elected by big majorities. The smallest majority this year is 364, which is larger than the largest two years ago. Hendersonville township has elected a solid Republican ticket. . j .. . J. J. BRITT THE LANDSLIDE New York, Nov. 4. Latest returns from yesterday's election indicate that the democratic majority in the house of representatives for the sixty-fourth congress rill be reduced to twenty tUree. The probable democratic ma jority in the senate will be fourteen. Democrats have elected 226 mem districts, it was estimated tonight thai the republicans and democrats elect thiee each. Heaviest republican gain3 were thirteen in Illinois, twelve in New York, two in Kansas and one in .ortH Carolina. "in thR Sixth California district, J. A Eleton, progressive, led George H. Der rick, republican, by a sngnt margin. Democratic leaders claimed the elec tion of H. H. Seldomridge, and Edward Keating in the second and third Colo rado districts. Representative Wil liam E. Tuttle, Jr., of the fifth New Jersey district was in danger of losing hie seat to John H. Capstick, republi can, but his supporters claimed his election.
