BIG SIRE
THE LAURINBURG COTTON
SEED OIL MILL BURNED.
■ROME TO SEE IT!
On Monday afternoon, between
6 and 6 o’clock, the alarm of fire '
Was sonbded, which as usual caused
considerable commotion in our quiet
town. It was not many minutes
until the fire was located and
crowds of people—some walking,:
dome running, some on horseback (
and others in buggies—were soon (
on their way to the Cotton Seed Oil
Mill, which was shortly enveloped .
in flames. The fire is supposed to
have caught from a spark from the.
gin. There was veiy little seed cotton
in the mill at the time. About font
hundred tons of .cotton seed,
amounting to $5,000, were destroy
ed; also about ten or twelve bales
of cotton. Four Other buildings be
longing to the oil mill were also
consulted. The depot and Mr. J.
A. Medlin’s residence bad a narrow
escape. The railroad track sn some
.places'caught and the iron was so
badly warped that tire freight and
passenger trains Were delayed some
time before they could run by.
The fire was a large one and bad.
