Appeal to Forest
City's Citizens
Mayor W. S. Moss has an appeal to
the business interests of this town to
meet with him tonight (Thursday) to
talk over some important matters per
taining to the welfare, betterment and
advancement of Forest City.
The work now going on here on the
Square and streets of a necessity handi
caps trade. A plan to serve the people
to the best advantage must be provided,
also avenues for them to get to the
stores.
Of a necessity with so much buiiding
going on, much trash and litter accumu
lates, and especially at the back of
stores and also in the "back lots" of
residences are the garbage heaps. If
these are left indefinitely, they are
breeders of disease, flies and mosqui
tors. "Clean Up" week will be dis
cussed, and a time set when concerted
action will be taken to get rid of this.
The housing problem is getting acute
—no place for those who wish to locate
here to live. Some plan for an "Invest
ment and Improvement" Co , to take
care of the growing demand for houses
to rent will be discussed.
C. C Proffitt, manager of the Farm
Department of the Farmers Bank &
Trust Co., wan'.s a chance at this meet
ing to say a few words to the people on
problems that confront them. He also
wishes to consult with them in regard
to a county Fair here this fail, and also
in regard to ways and means of bring
ing trade to this town.
We have the natural advantages and
surroundings here, and with the con
certed action of the business interests
here, there is no reason why Forest
City should not be the best and fastest
growing town in the state—or, in a few
years the metropolis of Southwest
Carolina. "It Can Be Done!" Is this
your slogan, citizens of Forest City?

The street paving and other work on
the square and over the eity, is pro
gressing slowly, but as fast as circum
stances will permit. Be patient. We
will all be proud of the old town when
this work is finished.
Weather conditions have prevented
the farmers from being as far along
with their work a« the time of year
would warrant. By the use of tractors
and improved and labor-saving machin
ery they can soon make up all lost time.
Through an error in proof-reading»
the ordinance as published last week
was misleading. It should read that
Closing will be at 7p. m. sharp. The
date of ordinance should read "March"
instead of "May 23rd."
The Florence Mill Band have pur
chased new uniforms and are preparing
several selections to render at a con
cert to be given on the square as soon
as it is cemented. Maybe if they would
render these selections sooner it might
hurry up the work of paving.
Quite a number of our young people
enjoyed a party at the home of Mrs.
W. L. Horn recently. Games and
music were indulged in, after which
refreshments were served. Among
those present were Misses Clara Bry
ant, Vircie Fox, Sudie Horton, Vonnie
Philbeek, Winnie Davis, Georgia Flack,
Ona Harrill, Luna Philbeek; Messrs.
Clarence Davis, Guy Hill, Jay Laugh
ridge, Whitaker, Jones, Webb, Arledge,
Dorsey and Mr. Hoy of Spindale.
Pollyanna at Horn's Theatre Satur
day was a great play and a success
from every standpoint. Manager Horn
opened at 3 p. m. showing five times to
crowded houses each time. He is to be
| commended for his efforts to give the
people such first class pictures as he
does, and the people from the country
can get a great deal of pleasure from
attending. A large crowd of out of
town people attended this show.
Quite a few enthusiastic ball players
and fans met in the W. 0. W. hall one
night last week, and proceeded to for
mulate plans for Forest City to have a
first class base ball team this season.
Mr. I. B. Covington, was elected presi
dent, and it goes without saying that
whatever he takes hold of is an assur
ed success. Over S2OO was pledged to
the support of the team and there is
more in the background to put out a
winning team. Watch the Forest City
| boys grab the pennant.
