The Near East Drive has gone
over the top in Rutherford coun
ty. The county's quota was $1,380.
Chairman Gallert announced to
day that the drive is over the top
and funds keep coming in. The
county also went over the top in
the Woodrow Wilson Foundation
drive.
Work will begin soon on the
new Baptist church here. Pledges
were taken Sunday. The church
will be very modern and will cost
about $30,000.
The political pot in Rutherford
will boil soon. There is gossip o:i
the streets as to who will be a
candidate for the various >li>es.
Rutherfordton will likely get a
new postoffice building at an early
date, according to an interview
with Congressman Weaver recent
ly. The government has owned a
lot to erect the building on for
some time.
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Flack are

be held at the Moss-Reinhardt
Furniture Company's store next
Friday night, at 7:30 o'clock, at
which time steps will be taken to
form a string band to be com

taken at once for the beginning

SUMMER TOURISTS FARES
TO BE CUT BY SOUTHERN
Washington, D. C., Feb. 28.
General Passenger Agent H. F.
Cary, of the Southern Railway
System, announces that the South
ern will put in round-trip tourist
rates to mountain and seashore re
sorts for the coming summer sea
son at 80 per cent of the double
one-way fares, which is a very
substantial reduction under the
tourist fares in effect last sum
mer For example, where the one
way fare is SIO.OO, the round-trip
rate this summer will be $16.00.
Last year the round-trip rate
would have been SIB.OO plus $1.41
wear tax, making a total of $19.44.
These rates will apply from all sta
tions to all mountain and seashore
resorts reached by the Southern
and are expected to have a great
effect in stimulating tourist travel.
