Thursday, June 22, 1922 \7dtiety Six-Course Dinner. Mr. D. D. Little entertained the stockholders of the Florence mill at a most eleborate six-course din ner at the Crowe 11 House Thurs day, June 15th. The dinner was planned by Miss Mayme Margin, which assures us that it was a success in every detail. * * * Birthday Celebration. Boyce Covington, Jr., was six years old Friday, June 16th, and to celebrate the occasion he was host at a most delightful party. Mrs. P. D. Harrill', Jr., and Miss Bertha Jones were invited to en tertain the children and this wa> done wonderfully well by playing various games on the pretty lawn of the Covington home. Be fore the little folks were weary they were invited into the dining room, where everything was dain ty and pretty with pink and white decorations. No birthday party is complete without a birthday cake, so in the centre of the table was a beautiful' birthday cake with six tiny candles, one for each happy year of the little host's life. Misses Francis and Alice Holmes, who stopped in Greensboro on their way home from New York, returned home Friday night. Miss May Bridges left Tuesday for Chapel Hill to attend the summer school. Miss Mary Alice Smith, of Sandy Mush, spent Wednesday night with Miss Laura May Watson. Mr. Will Wilkie, of Gaffney, spent the week-end with his moth er, Mrs. Kate Wilkie. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Teale and children, of Charlotte, who have been visiting Mr. Teaie's parents, Rev. and Mrs. C. M. Teale, return ed home Sunday, A party of young people enjoyed a moonlight picnic at Bostic Thursday night. They made the trip in Flack's truck and automo biles. Misses Nell Young and Ellie Huntley attended the party, given by Mrs. Barron Caldwell at her home in Cliffside Wednesday even ing in honor of Miss Jessie Jen kins, whose marriage to Mr. Hollis Owens took place Friday evening. Misses P. D. Harrill, Katherine Harrill, Mrs. R. L. Reinhardt and children, Lee Moss and Mary Ro berts spent Friday with Mr. and' Mrs. Yates Moss, near town. Mr. Theron Moore, who is work ing with a party of surveyors in Tryon, spent Sunday with his par ents, Mr. and W. B. Moore. Mr. C. E. Lowe, of Kannapolis, has joined his family here, who have been visiting Mrs. Lowe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. r f. For tune. A large delegation from Cliff side and Caroleen passed through here Sunday morning in cars to attend the Baraca-Philathea con vention in Hendersonville. Capt. and Mrs. B. L. Smith have gone to Boone, where Capt. Smith will teach in the summer school. He had not planned to go until the second term, but one of the instructors being unable to be there, Capt. Smith is taking his place. Miss Blanch Dellinger, of Cherryvifle, who has been visiting Mrs. Smith, accompanied them to Boone. Miss Nell Padgett, Forest City's most gifted singer, who has been studying in New York during the past year under Richard T. Percy, one of the best teachers in Amer ica today, sang in the Baptist, church of Shelby Sunday, the church celebrating its 75th an niversary. Miss Padgett has a dramatic soprano voice of unusual sweetness and shows wonderful improvement since her training in New York. Mr. Truman Moore is spending the summer with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Moore at Alexander. For the past year he has been studying Commercial Art in Chicago. Mr. J. R. Moore and family at tended the funeral service of little Norma Moore the three-year-old daughter of J. R. Moore, Jr., of Kathleen, Ga. The .family here did not know the little one was sick until they received a tele gram stating she was dead. The funeral was held in Shelby and the burial was in the town ceme tery. Miss Lottie Mulliken, of Hunt ington, W. Va., is visiting Mrs W. P. Hall, Jr. Misses Valiiree Jones, Myrtle Wilkerson, Messrs. Bob Harrill ano Johnnie Carnegie spent last Wed nesday evening in Rutherfordton, guests of Miss Lorena Hill. Mrs. Shirley Branscombe, of Union Mills, spent the week-end with Mrs. J. E. Caldwelll Mr. Otto Long of ,Shelby, spent Saturday and Sunday with home folks. Miss Mary Shehan, of Ruther fordton, spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. Bess Jones. Miss Valiree Jones left Satur day morning for Danville, Va., to spend some time with her sister, Mrs. Solon Davis. Misses Maude Carswell and Jewell Gamble spent the week-end in Shelby. Mr. Tom Moss returned from Rutherford Hospital last Sunday and is showing most gratifying improvement. Mr. Chevius Bostic left Tues day for Wake Forest to attend summer school. Mrs. M. J. Sisk, of Rutherford ton, spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. J. W. G. Smith, on Broadway Mr. Cowan Blanton, of Gaffney, was in town several days the past week. A blue silk umbrella, with white and blue mingled handle and tips, has been lost or left in some store.
