Local Headquarters Spindale Drug Store THURSDAY, FEBRUARY S, 1925 SCHOOL NEWS A Bible study contest conducted under the auspices of the State Y. M. C. A., has been entered by the lugh school boys. The course will extend over a period of eight weeks and will be on "Jesus ihe Leader." It is expected that groat good will accrue to each one taking part. Miss Grace Ellington, a member of the eleventh grade class, is still out «f school, as a result of an operation. She will soon be able to be back at school, however. The com pletion of the course, which is six teen weeks in duration, will give cer tificate and also reading ciAle credit. Those who desire it may receive de gree credit for the work. Dr. Terry who has charge of the course, is a delightful teacher. This is a rare opportunity for the county teachers to get off their read ing circle work and at the same time receive credit toward raising their certificates. The next meeting will be held at Rutherfordton February 10, at four o'clock. By joining the class on that date, you will be able to obtain full credit. GROSE MAKING GOOD The many friends of Mr. J. U. Grose will be pleased to hear of his success in athletics, at Richmond Mil itary Academy, Augusta, Ga., where he is a first year cadet. Tuesday's Augusta Daily, in commenting on the military academy's splendid team and its schedule, had this to say of Grose, "Big Boy Grose, the tallest member of the squad, is going like a house on fire. Miss Ida Hull, of Gastonia, was a week-end visitor of Mrs. Elizabeth Payseur. Mr. Marshall Long, of Wadesboro, spent Sunday here with his wife. Mr. J. P. Simmons has moved into the I oarding house recently vacated by ?»:rs. Carrie Wilkins. Mrs. Wil kir '.s now managing the old "Bry anl" boarding place. Mi*. Leonard L. Morgan left Mon day to resume study at Wake Forest. He has been home for the past few months assisting his sister, Miss Su die Morgan in the post office. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Ward, Sunday, a daughter. Miss Nell Campbell left Monday morning for Charlotte. Mr. Leonard Morgan and sister, Miss Sudie, entertained Mr. Perry Morgan, of Raleigh and Mr. Ed Pres ton of Marion, last Thursday evening at dinner. Messrs. Morgan and Pres ton are connected with the Baptist State B. Y. P. U. board and are now conducting a successful B. Y. P. U. training school at Forest City. Miss Gertrude Campbell spent the week-end with her parents near Clifr side. Miss Edith Dotson has returned to her home at Cliffside after a week's visit in Spindale. Mrs. Fannie Rucker is very ill at the Rutherford hospital at this writ ing. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Dotson spent the week-end visiting the latter's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Spangler, near Campobello, S. C. Mrs. Nannie Spangler left Sunday for the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Horn, of Melvin Hill, who is seriously ill with flu and pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Spangler and little son, Broadus, spent the week end visiting Mrs. Spangler's sister, Mrs. Dudley Cantrell, of Cherokee. S C. Mr. R. T. Miller, of near Campo bello, S. C., was in Spindale Monday on business. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Robbins spent Sunday afternoon with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Robbins, of near Ellenboro. Mr. 0. C. Smith and family spent Sunday visiting relatives in Polk county. Mr. Curtis Giles and Miss Bertha Giles spent Sunday in Alexander vis iting their uncle, Mr. Charlie Green. Miss Bertha Giles entertained about twenty of her friends at a birthday party last Friday evening. Mr. Robert Culbreth and family spent Sunday in Shiloh. Mrs. Claud Sinclair has been real sick for the past week. Miss Leona Giles is visiting her sister, near Inman, S. C. BOSTIC R-3 NEWS Bostic, R-3, Feb. 3.—Rev. Bunyan Harrill filled his regular appoint ment at Concord Saturday and Sun day. Rev. Floyd Wood preached for Rev. Harrill and made a good talk and was enjoyed by all present. Misses Viola Hollifield, Allen Pad gett and Margaret Kcndrick visited Miss Bertie Lee Kendrick Sunday. Mr. E. Daves and daughter spent Sunday afternoon at Harris visiting his sister, Mrs. S. R. White. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Carson spent Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. W. C. Harris. Mr. Oscar Padgett and family spent Sunday at the home of Mr. B. B. Smart. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hicks spent Saturday night at the home of Mr. D. H. Kendrick. We are glad to know that Mr. Cle tus Randall, who has had pneumonia is up again.
