THE SPINDALETONIAN CLARENCE GRIFFIN, Ed-Mgr. MRS. G. F. HOVIS, Associate Ed. Local Headquarters Spindale Drug Store THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1925 DEATH OF SMALL CHILD Mary Louise, the two weeks old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cobb, died last Friday morning at 4:00 o'clock. Burial was at Union Mills Friday afternoon, Rev. 0. L. Simpson being ing charge of the funeral services. THE POWER OF MUSIC Mighty is music, we shall study and see, Uplifting and true, is its desire to be, Sacred to all who can feel its great power, Ideal to those who strive to live each hour, Christlike and Godlike lives. Make a large place in your life for music and it will bring you a price less reward. All the desires of your heart will come closer as you become attuned to the rhythm and harmony of life. The desire of every life is to have and to hold peace, content ment, happiness and love and every life is going to seek these. There is a source from which they all may come and, may I say that this is a right knowledge of music. That is, to know it, and understand it, as God would have us do. It is a bless ing from Him and who would dare say that every gift from Him does not bring joy. As has been said, "Music is the highest conception of that which is Godlike in man." We know that it comes from Christ, be cause of its beauty, its power and its message to mankind. God sends this blessing of music upon all, sinner and Christian alike, but it falls upon each heart with quite a different understanding or meaning. To the child of God it speaks in a language that .cannot be described —it thrills, it cheers, it comforts, it inspires, it blesses, it leads right on to those realms above the world. In it they can feel Christ. This is the one blessed thought for the Christless life—Mu sic lias the power to lead to thia wonderful Saviour. In it they can find Christ. That is why, too, we know it comes from Him for how can salvation enter any life except by His divine leadership. Music reaches us from every walk of life. In the hour of rest it will uplift our spirit and give refresh ment to every faculty of our being. "When the physical body is broken down, how prone we are to become discouraged and ready to give up. There comes the needed hour of rest, and oh, how much sweeter and more soothing it is if music is there. It binds up, it heals, and it strength ens. It anoints every faculty of our being with oil and we find our body full and running over with re newed strength and energy. In the hour of work, the task we have before us will become lighter if some melody note comes floating upon the air to our eager heart and listening ear. We find our- very muscles responding to its harmony and rhythm. We work with such pas sionate ardor and enthusiasm that we become unconscious of the bur den of the task and our weary hours Ladies, Spring Coats $12.75 Coats now SIO.OO each $19.75 Coats now $15.00 each $21.75 Coats now SIB.OO each $24.75 Coats now $20.00 each $29.75 Coats now $25.00 each We also have some very special values in ladies' Silk Dresses — One group to sell at $9.90 One Group to sell at $12.15 / Hensley's Department Store SPINDALE, N. C. Pay Less At Hensley's. The Spindaletonian fade into mere minutes. May I pause here to say that much depends upon you to catch up this melody note, for the fellowworker at your side is de pending upon you, waiting upon you to pass it on. Perhaps you are the only channel thru which he can re ceive it, who knows. Like the tiny pebble dropped into the great ocean, not only one wave is made and van ishes, but each one reaches out and countless numbers are set in motion. This continues until there is a great ocean of ripples, all caused from the response of the one small wave to do its duty. What does music bring to us in the hour of jubilee? Thrills of de light that make up for all that is dull and commonplace. Perhaps it is here, sometimes, that some of us forget the power and purity of mu sic. There is often a tendency to drag it down, "trample it under foot," so to speak, but let me beg you not to contaminate this beauti ful word even by supplying it here. Do not call this music—music, real music, is here on a mission, it brings and gives more joy, real joy, the happiness that is everlasting, true, and eternal. Let us love, more dear ly, what God has given us and try jto sanctify instead of blast these j blessings from Him. God would have us joyful and happy and music is a gift from His bountiful hand to add to this joy. There is a time of fellowship, part nership, companionship and music will blend and bind our spirits with others in unity and understanding. Oh, how these ties need to be made stronger in the home, the church, the school, the business world and every where. We know the strength in unity and we know the happiness in understanding. We cannot work alone, we must come in contact with and influence other lives. Our life alone is weak, but bound together with many willing and helpful lives it cannot be broken. Would that we could know how few would be the heartaches and tear-dimmed eyes if we only understood one another at all times. Into every life comes the hour of love, and a true understanding of music will reveal its great power here. It will enrich the heart and soul with feelings that magnify the meaning of existence. Love, thai great emotion which causes one to see so much, to be so much, to do so much, to sacrifice so much and to understand so much. Love for home, country, church, parents, friends, even enemies, loved ones and great est of all, love for God God is love, and we know in order to be like Him, we must possess this "tender ness of heart." "God so loved that He gave," and oh, how we should strive to cultivate and enrich this ele ment in our lives in order that we might return some of this great love. What will do it? Let love open its heart to music and it will become as powerful as God would have it. Let us stop for a moment in the hour of memory and learn what part music plays here. It will unseal the treasures of the past and bring a sacred glory to the present. Some times there are thoughts of the past that are not so pleasant, end how comforting to know there is some thing to which we can resort that will vanish all the disagreeable past icleas of the mind even for a definite period of time. May we guard and enrich our everyday thoughts, make them pure and sacred and there will A PAGE, OR SECTION, DEVOTED TO THE UPBUILDING OF SPINDALE SPINDALE, THE HOME OF FINEST TEXTILES be no fear of the past, present, or future. Every life lives in that hour of vision and surely music can render a service here, too. It will give pow er and scope to our imagination and bring into reality the things that were not. We find it true that the life which is most worth while is the one catching the greatest vision be fore it begins to build itself. Wheth er or not we ever reach the goal to which our imagination soars, let us build our air castles of the most pre cious material. Let them be stately and magnificent, with such a splen dor that reaches to the very gates of Heaven. Even the noble efforts put forth will make our lives stronger and more like the Master. May we realize just how much we need our imaginations awakened and broad ened. In this time of high purpose let music summon the powers of our soul and urge them on to great and glorious achievements. The greatest hour of all is that of prayer, and yet, we find music suf ficient even unto this. Only those who have experienced what it is able to supply here, can understand, and even then words cannot express it. It will quicken the aspirations of the soul and perfume the life with the very breath of Heaven. It will place us under the shadow of His protect ing wing, place our hand within the clasp of His own, and draw us with in the circle of His great strong arm. Then we are given the sweet assur ance that God has heard, we know, all dloubt is removed and we can praise His name forever. We are made to rejoice and join in this sweet refrain, "Blessed Assurance Jesus is Mine, Oh what a Foretaste of Glory Divine." It will make us to know that "Whatsoever ye ask in my name that will I do," and it will give us "Faith, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Surely this is all, but no, In the hour of death music will speak to us of a life filled with an eternity of joy and song. Will there be music in Heaven? Yes, Heaven is where God is and where music is. What earthly treasure but this and the precious word of God can we carry with us when we sleep to wake in Yonder World. Had we thought be fore that music is only a part of Heaven upon earth. Surely then it must be sacred. The angels sang, "Glory to God in the highest peace on earth and good will toward men." "And I heard a voice from Heaven as the voice of many waters and as the voice of a great thunder. And the voice which I heard was as the voice of harpers harping with their harps." Such is the power of music, I say, Throw open the door of your soul to day, And let your life be filled with joy and love, That gives you an entrance to Heaven above. Think more of music, do your very best Each day to thank God for its won der so blest. MT. PLEASANT NEWS Forest City, R-2, March 24.—Mr. S. H.
