Music was fur nished bv the Caroleen Band, of which Mr. Phillips is a member. Many games were played and everyone had an excellent time. Late in the eve ning a watermelon feast was enjoyed by all present Mr. C. M. Woodford, of New York City, president of The Henrietta Mills, is spending a few days in Car oieen. A large number of the boys and girls of Caroleen enjoyed a party given at the home of Misses Louise and Inez Dobbins Saturday evening. Messrs. Hyderick and Henry San ders, of Rutherfordton, spent Sun_ day with Mr. and Mrs. I. K. Edwards. The Girls' Auxiliary of the Baptist church met with Misses Fearl and Zenobia Neal Wednesday evening for its regular bi-monthly meeting. A very interesting program was ren dered. the subject being Missions Among the Indians. After the pro gram a social hour was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Shober and daughter, Dolly, are spending their vacation in Henderson, N. C. Mr. W. S. Moss, Mrs. B. A. Ham rick and Mrs. Walter Smith left Sat urday for the northern markets to purchase the Fall and Winter goods for the Henrietta Mills Stores. Mr. R. W. Vick and family spent Sunday in Rutherfordton as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Council. Miss Ruth Blanton was the week end guest of Miss Willie Sue Mau nev, of Henrietta. Mr. Ralph Rogers, of Spartanburg, S. C., and Miss Edna Rogers, of Augusta. Ga.. were visitors in town Sunday. Miss Reba Phillips visiter in Char lotte several days last week. FIRE DESTROYS CLINE HOUSE AT LAWNDALE Fire of unknown origin destroyed the home and several outbuildings of Mrs. David Cline at Lawndale Satur day night about 8:30 o'clock. No one was at home at the time the fire was discovered, Mrs. Cline being on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Mcßrvde Post on in Shelby. The buildings as well as the contents were a c-OTpplete loss except the piano and sewing ma chine which were removed by neigh bors who gathered at the scene. It is understood Mrs. Cline carried $3,- 500 insurance on the house and SSOO on the furniture which of course does not cover the loss.—Shelby Star. vLime and cement. Get the best at 43 4t ardWarC C ° M Forest City * THE FOREST CITY COURIER SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC HELD LAST SATURDAY An event eagerly looked forward to each year by both young and old is the Methodist Sunday school picnic. This year's picnic was held last Sat urday afternoon and evening at Sul phur Springs. A large number of Sunday school members gathered at the church at 3 o'clock Saturday aft ernoon and after making arrange ments for the transportation of pass engers and picnic lunch boxes the crowd left for Sulphur Springs. The afternoon was spent playing games. Supper was spread picnic style about 6:30 o'clock, which, needless to say. was enjoyed by all, and was followed by a watermelon slicing. Policeman Yates Duncan is back on the job after a week's illness with the mumps. Miss Leona Giles spent last week in Hendersonville visiting her uncle, Mr. Arthur Green and Mrs. Green. Mr. R. L. Culbreth and family and Miss Bertha Giles spent Sunday at Lake Lanier. Mrs. Howard Crow and small daughter, Myrtle, spent a few days last week visiting Mrs. Crow's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Blanken ship, in Golden Valley. Miss Corrine McCurry spent the week-end visiting friends in Shelby. Rev. H. C. Brackett, a ministerial student at Rutherford College, preached Sunday evening at the Methodist church in the absence of Rev. O. L. Simpson, who is engaged in a meeting at Alexander. Miss Lora Moore returned to her home in Kinston Friday after a pleas ant visit with Misses Evelyn and Eula Barrs. Messrs. Hugh Hill and Max Dob bins returned home Friday after ac companying Messrs. Grover Kiesr and Tommy Culbreth to Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Herbert Crenshaw, of King Business College, Asheville, spent the week_end visiting friends in Spindale.
