SOUTH AMERICAN COFFEE NAMED "LAKE LURE' Chimney Rock, Dec., I.—That business men of South America are sentimental and seldom forget is at tested by the receipt by Dr. Luciun B. Morse, of sample packages of Bra zilian coffee sold under the trade mark name of "Lake Lure" compli mentary to the local development project by that name. It is recalled that a year ago last k une the motorcade of the State High way Commission, guided by Chairman Frank Page, of Raleigh, gave the road representatives from twenty for eign nations of Central and South America, a thousand mile journey over the good roads of North Caro lina. The party, numbering well over a hundred, and including prominent foreigners, were dinner guests of Dr. Morse on top of Chimney Rock. Here was pointed out where it was propos ed to create Lake Lure by the erec tion of a concrete dam 104 feet high just five miles below Chimney Rock. The representatives from Brazil where this coffee comes from were The Charge d' Affairres of Brazil, Dr. Don Samuel de Sousa Leao Gracie, Timothea Penteado, Theodore Aug usto Ramos, Limo Campos and Sam pai3 Correia. It is presumed that it was through their influence that a high grade export coffee should be named after Lake Lure in Western North Carolina, although definite word has not yet been received. "SERVICE" "I beseech you therefore, brethren., by the mercies of God, that ye pre sent your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."—Rom. 12:1. As you think of the word "service" what does it mean to you? What are you serving and how are we to serve? There are many, many ways in which we can serve Christ. And may it be Jesus Christ that we serve. May we serve Him only for Christ has told us that we cannot serve two masters, for either we will hate the one and love the other; or else we will hold to the one and despise the other. First, let me say that we may serve Christ by helping others. "By love, serve one another." How many of us try each day to make some one happy? Just a smile or a word will ofitimes make someone happy. We think of self too much and forget God, our loving Saviour and ethers. May we place God first, then others and lastly self. May dear Jesus help us to live each day that we may live fox* others. We never lose anything by doing little deeds of kindess. If there are those that hate us and say unkind things about us it is our duty to pray for them and to love them. Oh! that we all had that great and tender love in our hearts that Jesus has. If \\{e could then we would be willing to forgive at all times. Of course it is very hard indeed to love and pray for those that hate us. The real true Christian can and we must do so in order to be Christlike and to serve Him who loves and bestows His bountiful blessings upon us all. Always be thinking of others and in the end may we forget the crown we've won while thinking still of oth ers. Once a little girl, whom I shall call Mary, was sick all the time and could not get out and play as other little boys and girls did. She sat all day long in a chair by the front window or front door and watched the little giris and boys pass, going from place to place. And many times she could see them carrying beautiful flowers and Oh! how she longed for the beau tiful flowers. One day as one of Mary's little girl friends was passing she stopped in to see Mary. She car ried in her hand a beautiful red rose. Poor little Mary wanted the rose, so she was given the beautiful rose. It made her so happy and not only her but the one that gave it was just as happy. Why do you suppose she was happy? Just because she had done a deed of kindness and by doing this deed she received great happiness. It |is just the same way with our own lives. When we do good deeds we receive great joy. Mary's little friend left and went back to her oth er little boy and girl friends and told them what she had done. They all planned some way in which they could make little Mary still happier. The next day as Mary wa s sitting by her window what do you suppose she saw coming. It was many of her little friends coming with hoes, shovels and different tools to work with, also flower seeds, to make Mary a flower garden. Can't you just im agine how Mary's heart was over flowing with joy. The flowers were planted and each day they were wat ered by the little boys and girls. Now Mary was happy and forgot about be ing sick and all her troubles. These little boys and girls had found an opportunity to make some one happy. Just such wonderful op portunities are hidden in your own lives, dear friends. Will you not make up your mind and make your life a useful one? Christ says "Knowing that whatso ever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bound or free." Christ also tells us, "He that over cometh, keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations." "Be ye kind one to another, ten derhearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ's sake, hath I forgiven you." Let u s not only serve Christ by helping 1 others, but let us serve Him by worshiping Him and giving Him our money and talents, by obeying Him, by prayer and there are many 1 other ways we might mention. We all have a great task before us. We all have different works and it is our duty to go ahead and develop that talent which God has given us whether it be great or small. Be like Peter and say, "Such as I have give I unto Thee" and God will ask no more of us. i In serving Christ we have many, | many temptations but may we put on ! the whole armour of God and the , breastplate of righteousness, that we |may be able to stand against the I wiles of Satan and above all may we take the shield of faith. May we not do our deeds just to be praised by men but may we do them because it is the sincere desire to our hearts and because we love Christ. Let us give Him all the honor. For we owe it all to Him. Are you willing to consecrate your service this day unto the Lord? Let us resolve this day that we will serve Him. who died for us all. more and try to do always the things He would have us do. May we lay ourselves upon the altar of God and let Him use us in the ways He sees best. Let us all be faithful servants always carrying a smile and a song on our lips, helping the world each day to smile and sing. And when our work here on earth is done and the death angel calls us home may we hear that sweet and welcome voice say, "Well done thou good and faith ful servant." HOW ARE WE USING OUR TIME? "Life is not something with which we can do as we please, but some thing that has been entrusted to us, which we are to invest in the best possible way for Him who gave it." Time is what we live in, it is a sec tion cut out of eternity for us. Time defines for us the limits in which our work must be done. We should make the best use of our time; but it is one thing that most of us do not value as we should. Do we own our time? No, our time, all of it, belongs to God. (All things were created by Him and for Him. Col. 1:1 G.) And we must use it as His stewards. We must use our time to help bring in the King dom of God. Let us examine ourselves and see just what we are doing. How much time do we, as students, spend in communing with God, either in pray er or Bible reading? Do we need our daily Bible readings laid down in the B. Y. P. U. quarterly? Do you give God the time that is due Him? Are we Christians every day or just Christians on Sunday? How much time do we devote to the promoting of God's Kingdom? We must use our time in doing more of God's will. We can do more of God's will here on the campus by seizing every opportunity of contributing to the good of others. It may be in helping and cheering a classmate, by giving him a lift, a kind word, a look of sympathy or a smile. How much time do we spend in serving others? We would all profit by following the motto, "God first, others second and self third." For after all there is only one thing in life that is worth while and that is serv ice. Service to God and our fellow men. Real happiness comes when we forget ourselves while serving others. The happiness of life is made up of little courtesies, little kindnesses, pleasant words, good wishes and good deeds. Is your life a happy one? If not try serving others and you will find joy in living. The moments in which we are liv ing are the best things that we have. Going To Make Hay, Mr. Merchant? This season is one of the most prosper ous in years. The purse of the nation is full to overflowing and their hearts are charged with the Christmas spirit and the desire to buy. Christmas lists are already made out and are bigger and longer than ever before. Shoppers are perplexed with the annual problem, "WHAT WILL I GIVE." Anxiously they search the ads—seeking gift suggestions. If you have anything to sell, advertise it now for the big buying season is at hand. The sun is shining, Mr. Merchant! Advertise and make hay! The Forest City Courier will carry your message into the homes of Rutherford county. For the benefit of advertisers The Cour ier carries the most complete cut service of any country newspaper in the State. Phone 58 and a representative will call and prepare your Christmas advertising. They are ours, that is they have been entrusted to us. How are we using these moments? We as stewards, while here preparing for future life, forget that we are living today. While it is true that we are preparing for a greater life, we should not put off the tasks until tomorrow that we should do today. We should he about our work at all times. We are living now. But what kind of a life are we liv ing? Is it a life that is pleasing to God? Why not begin now to make our lives what we have planned for a long time. We can find no better time than this hour. Life is short. Let's make it count for the most. Every one can do much, here in school, on the campus or else where toward making a better day. As a prayer of self dedication we suggesc the use of Frances R. Haver gal's great hymn, which begins with these words: ''Take my life and let it be Consecrated, Lord to Thee. Take my moments and mv days; Let them flow in ceaseless praise, Take my hands; let them move At the impulse of Thy love, Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee." —Exchange.
