SPINDALE M. E. CHURCH NEWS ] ] Mi*» Evelyn Waddell The ladies of Spindale Missionary Society made a good start for the new year. Mrs. Simpson entertained the first meeting. A large number were present. We were glad to wel come Mrs. Wiley, Mrs. Kiser and Mrs. Biggerstaff as new members. A Mission Study class was organized with several members. Mrs. B. L. Smith was elected Mission Study Superintendent and we are expecting an interesting and profitable study of the book "Prayer and Missions." The ladies also voted to have a meeting of the local department once a month. The Men's Wesley Bible class and the Young Men's class of our Sunday School enjoyed an oyster supper at the Spindale House last Saturday evening. This was the closing event of a contest between these classes in which the young men were winners. The men were good losers and seem ed to enjoy feeding quite as well as being fed. Spindale Methodist congregation showed its usual generous spirit last Sunday when an opportunity was given for a free-will offering for missions. At the close of a most earnest and inspirational sermon on missions by the pastor, Capt. Smith ealled for a free-will offering and in a few minutes a most generous of fering was made. The opening of our lovely new Community Building, Spindale House, is putting new life into our com munity. It is the scene every after noon and night of many interesting affairs for all ages. The people are showing their appreciation by taking advantage of the opportunities of fered them in this well equipped building. Already several basketball games, banquets and other affairs have been given by organizations in the community and several others are booked ahead. We welcome all people in Spindale to Spindale House, and trust you will come any time you feel like it. The following new members have been received since the last report: Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Wylie, from For est City and Mrs. W. E. Clark and Miss Gertrude Clark, from Gilkey. RUTHERFORDTON M. E. CHURCH NEWS REV. J. O. ERVIN Since the first of the year the pastor has been preaching a series of sermons on the subject, "Godli-1 ness—Our Goal For the Year 1926." The means of attaining this high po sition and standing before the world in the likeness of God and as lights set upon a candlestand and as critic set upon a candlestand and as cities upon a hill; and as dynamos of power to lift the loads for our fellows, is still under discussion and it is hoped has meant and will mean much in the lives of the hearers . Our Sunday School under the faithful management of J. C. Cowan, Jr., as Supt. and Mrs. T. K. Flack, with a corps of good teachers and officers, seemed to be headed toward greater progress in its task of teach ing the word of God, and thereby de veloping in the boys and girls and adult members the sinewy and virile USED CARS FOR SALE This lot consists of— -1 Studebaker Touring, Light Six. 1 Ford Coupe, 1924 Model. 1 Ford Coupe, 1925 Model. 1 Ford Touring, 1924 Model. 1 Ford Roadster, 1923 Model. Callahan, assisted by earnest teachers and officers, is doing a splendid work. Of course our Missionary Society and Ladies Aid led by Mrs. T. R. Flack and Mrs. J. C. Cowan is, as us ual, moving on at a steady pace. These ladies are not only raising mon ey, at the rate of something like one hundred dollars per month on an average, but are doing a bigger thing, that is, keeping alive in the hearts and consciences of the membership the great soul inspiring and life lifting Missionary spirit of our Lord :ind Mighty Leader. We are sorry that because of local conditions we are not going to be able to contribute as much to the Mission ary emergency fund as we would like to do. But we are especially glad to find that the heart and spirit of our people are alive and warm to ward this great cause. To it we give our sympathy and prayers. When we find that our people though not many in number have handled more than two thousand dollars since the beginning of the conference year and must keep up that lick and a little more all through the year, we feel to say, "God bless and prosper you every one, and may your love and loyalty increase." The readers of the Herald will be I intrested to read that one of our best konwn young men of Rutherford ton, Mr. John C. Mills, was married on last Thursday evening. The bride was Miss Clara Mae Spratt of Char lotte. The beautiful ceremony was carried out in the Chalmers Memor ial A.R.P. Church, Charlotte. Mr. J.C. Cowan, Jr., of Rutherfordton, acted as best man and Mr. Frank Robinson as one of the groomsmen. Mr. and Mrs. Mills have gone for a motor trip through Florida. They carry with them there the good wishes of many friends, not only to Florida, but in all the way of life. Mrs. J. C. Cagle, one of the Dorcas class, a very well known and efficient seamstress as well as faithful Sunday School teacher and member of our choir, has been afflicted and kept in doors for the past few days by that very popular and pesky visitor known as "Mumps."
