TOWN OF FOREST CITY. AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT THE KEEPING OF HOGS AND HOG-PENS WITHIN A RADIUS OF ONE-HALF MILE OF THE SQUARE OF FOREST CITY, N. C. At a regular meeting of the May or and Board of Commissioners held at the Mayor's office in the town of Forest City on the 16th day of April, 1926, the following ordinance was duly passed and adopted. The Mayor and Board of Commissioners do ordain and publish: Section 1: That to promote health, comfort and the general wel fare of the inhabitants of Forest City and for the further eliminat ing of flies and diseases in the con gested district of the town of Forest City this ordinance and act is here by passed. Section 2: That all persons, firms or corporations situated within a ra dius of one-half mile from the cen ter of the public square in the town of Forest City are hereby prohibited from owning and maintaining any hogs or hog-pens within the said one half mile area as shown on the of ••al map of the said town. Section 3: That all persons and families keeping hogs or maintaining hog-pens within the said restricted area shall upon personal notice from the city official or city health officer be required to remove such hogs or hog-pens at their own expense and to clean up their premisses as di rected by such city officials. And upon failure by such person or per sons to remove hogs and hog-pens then and in that event, the town of Forest City may remove and dispose of same at the expense of such own er or owners. Section 4: That all persons violat ing any section or clause of this or dinance on and after Monday the 10th day of May, 1926, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined not exceeding the sum of $5.00 for each day and separate offense on and after the said 10th day of May, 1926. The following license, | taxes hereinafter specified or here ! by levied for the privilege of engag -1 ing in such trades, businesses or pro fessions in said town and shall be due and payable in advance at the MAY OR'S office in said town. Section 2: That ior the purpose of this ordinance, any person, firm, or corporation, that does not list a poll of property for taxation in said city, shall be deemed an itinerant and non-resident, and shall be subject to the tax levied hereinafter on our tenant and non-residents, and if no tax is herein specified for certain non-residents and itinerants, the tax shall be double the rate herein pro vided or otherwise imposed on resi dent tax payers and businesses. Section 3: That all persons, firms or corporations before engaging in any business, trade, profession or calling hereinafter named shall ap ply in writing to the Mayor and Board of Commissioners of the said town for a license to carry on such business and upon payment of such license tax herein imposed a license shall be issued to applicant. Which license must be posted conspicuous ly in the place of business, or if such person or persons have no regular place of business, the license must be kept where they may be inspected at all times by the city officials. And no such license shall be transferable or assignable except by consent of the Board of Commissioners. Section 4: That all bakeries paying poll and property tax and located as a resident business shall pay an an nual tax of $25.00. That all non resident and itenerant bakeries oper ating by motor truck or other vehicle and doing and soliciting business within the corporate limits of the town of Forest City shall pay an an nual license tax of $50.00. Section 5: That all butchers, mar kets and vendors of fresh meats who are residents of the town of Forest I City and paid the property tax there in shall pay an annual license of $20.00. That all non-resident and itinerant butchers, peddlers or ven dors of fresh meats operating and soliciting business by motor vehicle, truck or otherwise, shall pay the sum of $40.00. Section 6: That all resident laun dries located in the town of Forest City and paying a property tax therein shall pay an annual license tax of $25.00. That all itinerant and non-resident laundries or other cleaning establishments operating, soliciting, or conducting such laun dry business within the corporate limits of the said town by means of agents, motor trucks or any other manner whatsoever, shall pay an an nual license tax in the sum of $50.00. Section 7: That all persons, firms or corporations, or agents or repre sentatives in the above mentioned trades or callings operating, solicit ing, or conducting or in any way en gaging in the above specified trades or professions or businesses, with out first securing such licenses and payments and having first paid such licenses tax shall be deemed guilty of the above ordinance or any section thereof relating to such person or persons, firms or corporations and shall be fined the sum of $5.00 for each violation thereof.
