Struve and son, of At lanta, Ga., are visiting her brother, Mr. Marshall Giles. Mr. Struve will arrive the latter part of this week for a visit. * * # Dr. W. L. Stallings arrived last week and has taken rooms with Mr. J. N. McMurry. Dr. Stallings is a veterinarian. He assisted in the cattle testing campaign in this coun ty and is well known to our people. * * * Miss 'Clara Harrill, of Hickory, spent the week-end here with her mother, Mrs. P. D. Harrill, Sr., Miss Kathrine Harrill, who has been sick for the past three weeks, is improv- ing, we are glad to report. * * sfe Mr. Moses Blumenthal, of Char lotte, is moving into the Eeachboard building, next door to The Courier, where he will carry a full line of clothing, hats, shoes, etc. He will move his family here later. * rs * Mrs. A. C. Jones, Misses Bertha, Hattie and Bunnah Jones, Viola Ran {dall, and Miss Ruth Higgins, of Caro leen, Mrs. Eaton, of Erwin, Tenn., left Tuesday on a business and pleasure trip to New York, and Eal timore. I Mr. R. H. Christian, of Bristol, Tenn., has arrived in Forest City, where he will make headquarters as 1 traveling salesman for the S. N. Christian Co. He is taking over the territory formerly covered by Mr. A. D. Mills, of this city. . * * * Honorable C. E. Robinson, prom inent attorney of Pickens, S. C., and son, C. E., Jr., of Greenville, S. C., were visitors to Forest City yester day. They were both very much charmed and favorably impressed with our town and county. The Woman's Club of Forest City, will hold its district meeting here Saturday, October 23. It is that we make this announcement at this time so there wili be no con flicting arrangements made for any other meeting. The Club reserves this date—October 23. MRS. THOMAS ENTERTAINS " .The palatial home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Thomas, was a scene of unusual beauty Tuesday afternoon, when Mrs. Thomas entertained at a rook party at 4 o'clock, honoring her house guest, Mrs. Dixon Smith, of Columbus, Ga., and Mrs. Stowe, of Atlanta. The latter is a guest of her mother, Mrs. Coleman, and brother, Mr. Marshall Giles. The guests were received at the front door by Mrs. J. M. Edwards and were introduced to the receiving line by Mrs. E. 0. Thomas. Those re ceiving were Mrs. J. H. Thomas, Mrs. Dixon Smith, Mrs. Stowe, Mrs. Otto Long, and Mrs. J. S. Dalton, the latter two from Shelby. Mrs. W. R. Minish and Mrs. G. C. King di rected the guests to the dining room and were greeted by Mrs. Y. L. Mc- Cardwell, of Mooresboro. From here the guests were directed into the parlor, where delicious punch was served by Misses Alice Holmes and Ruth Doggett. Little Miss Helen Thomas presented the score cards, by which each guest found their ap pointed place at the rook tables, where . spirited and lively games were enjoyed for some time, after which tempting and delicious re freshments were served. The entire lower floor of the handsome residence was thrown en suite, consisting of the reception hall, east parlor, library, dining room and sun parlor, and was beau tifully decorated in the color scheme of pink and green, lovely silver bas kets of pink roses reposing in every nook. The card tables had»as their decorations vases of pink rose buds. The dining table a rare scene with its cover of lace and silver bas kets of huge pink roses for its cen ter piece and silver candle sticks holding hand-painted tapers of old blue. Quite a number of guests were present to enjoy Mrs. Thomas' hos pitality. CHESTNUT HILLS LOT SALE TODAY Large Delegation Going From Forest City List of Purchasers. Today is the day for the big lot sale at Chestnut Hills and a large delegation is going from this city to be present at the allotment of sites and the giving away of the Buick Sedan. This interesting event will take place at 3 o'clock p. m. Picnic lunch will be served at noon and every preparation has been made to care for the large crbwd expected to be present.
