Have Interesting Meeting Boy Scouts on Hike—Local and Per sonals Spindale, June 28. —The Womans' Missionary Society of the Methodist Church met at the parsonage with Mrs. T. C. Jordan Wednesday after noon, at 3:00 o'clock. The regular quarterly social service program was presented by Mrs. Jordan, with Mrs. Payseur, Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Fin ley taking part. A very interesting meeting was held and quite a number of ladies were in attendance. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. J. O. Williams. Spindale Troop, One, Boy Scouts spent last Friday hight on an over night outing near Harris. They left here late Friday afternoon under the leadership of their scoutmaster, Mr. Max Watson. Camp was made on the river, near Harris Friday night. A number of games were played and swimming was enjoyed by some. Those making the trip were Scouts Edward Dotson, Howai'd O'Kelly, Au brey Clay, Billy Hill, Walter Gregg, Norris Hardin, Bob Padgett, Clyde, O'Neil and Homer Shytle, J. C. Hill, Hugh and Mayrock Smith, Paul Starnes, Guy Williams. Mrs. R. S. Finley and Mrs. Joe Hanes, of V Asheville, were the guests of Mrs. T. C. Jordan last week. Mr. and Mrs Ray Arledge, of Hen dersonville, spent the week-end with Mrs. Arledge's parents, Rev. and Mrs. T. C. Jordan. Mrs. Grace Williams, of Roanoke Rapids, N. C., is spending sometime here with her sister, Mrs. W. E. Clarke. MOORESBORO R-l_ Mooresboro, R-l, 'June 27.—Rev. Washburn, filled his regular appoint ment at High Shoals Sunday and preached a fine sermon. There was a splendid attendance. Mrs. Goyen Wall, very delightfully entertained the Intermediate B. Y. P. U. Thursday night. Many inter esting games were played after which delicious refreshments were served. Miss Buelah Earley, of Dobbins ville, spent the week end very pleas antly with Miss Gladys Robinson. Pro gressing. Forest City R-l, June 27.—0n last Saturday night Miss Pauline Cole en tertained a number of her friends with a birthday party, it being her fifteenth birthday. Miss Mabel Har ris presented her a beautiful birthday cake with fifteen candles on it. A contest was held and delicious sand wiches and lemonade were served during the evening. Among those en joying Miss Cole's hospitality were, Misses Lillie, Maudie, Ina, Ruby and Lenna Robbins, Mabel and Inez Har ris, Estelle and Joyce Bland, Annette Hopper, Nellie and Zelma Sherrill, Myrtle Matheney, Ora Crawford, An nie Henson and Pauline Cole; Messrs. Floyd and Lloyd Owens, Arthur and Howard Cole, Arthur Henson, George Eaves, John Bland, Melvin Harris, Dennis Jenkins, Beryman Hamrick, Herman Matheney, Rector Robbins, George Abernethy and M. F. Hopper. There was a large crowd present | Sunday for Sunday school. We invite each one to come again and help to build up our school. We have good B. Y. P. U. pro grams each Sunday night at Sul phur Springs. Visitors are invited to attend. Misses Myrtle and Ruby Hopper spent Sunday with Miss Mae Miller. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Har rill, of Lattimore delivered an able sermon at Floyd's Creek church Sun day afternoon.'His message was time ly and much enjoyed by the congre gation. The Price quartette and a number of their singers accompanied' Rev. Harrill and rendered some splendid music which was thoroughly enjoy ed by all present. We hope to have them with us again soon. Mr. J. C. Monteith and family of Hendersonville have ijecently moved into our vicinity. We welcome them into our midst. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Mauney and daughter Lucile, and Mr. and Mrs. J. -C. Powell and daughter Florence, of the Floyd's. Creek section, visited at Mr. Gaither Kennedy's Sunday af ternoon. Mr. James Scruggs died at hn home here last night. Mr. Scruggs had been in ill health for some time, so his passing was not unexpected. Fun eral services will be held at High Shoals church this afternoon at three o'clock. Shehan, near Cowpens, S. C. SALEM NEWS" Bean Beetle Doing Some Damage— Crops Good Large Snake Killed. Bostic, R-l, June 27.—Crops are looking fine since our recent rains. Gardens are looking good, but the bean beetles are doing some dam age. A large snake was found in the basement of Mr. E. N. Washburn's store No. 1, measuring seven and one half feet. It was thought by some to be a whip snake. Mr. W. E. Stacey and family spent Wednesday night with his mother, Mrs. J. I. Stacey, of Shelby, who has been sick for quite a while and is worse we are sorry to note. Miss Annie McDaniel spent last week with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. McDaniel. Mr. Rex Weast, Miss Layettle Weast and Mrs. W. E. Stacey spent Monday evening in the Oak Grove section. Mr. Ira Stacey, of Shelby was the dinner guest of Mr. Earl * Stacey's Thursday. The Salem Epworth League gave a play at Broad River school, "The Old Oaken Bucket" last Saturday night.
