PLEASANT HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB MEETS The regular monthly meeting of the Mt. Pleasant Home Demonstra tion club met at the home of Mrs. T. J. Wilkins at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, February 8. We had a most interesting meeting 1 . Miss How ard gave a very helpful talk and il lustration on the selecting and ar ranging of living room furniture. She said the first thing to consider was expense; that we could furnish our -iiving rooms well and attractive with little expense, if we give it thought and care in selecting- The next thing to consider was comfort, to arrange the living room furniture with each member of the family's comfort in j mind. J After Miss Howard's talk a social hour was enjoyed, during which a salad course with hot coffee was served to the following: Mrs. J. D. Smith, J. S. Wall, G. W. Rollins, C. M. Holland, Chivous Tate, David Eariey, Miles Kennedy, Vance Price, Kelley Hamrick, Clark Harrill, Max Zmith, Conway Kennedy, Leroy Hol land, J. D. Link, Will Smith, Miss Louise Wall and Miss Howard. We had a large number of visitors and one new member joined our club. MR. WAYNE BRIDGES IS CANDIDATE FOR SHERIFF ; Mr. Wayne Bridges, of Ruther- J fordton, announces his candidacy j for sheriff in this week's Courier. * Mr. Bridges is eminently fitted for j the position, having served four j years as deputy sheriff under Mr. j J. W. Beason, and, to use a slang expresion, "knows the ropes." He is j now city clerk and fire chief for the j town of Rutherfordton, a position ; which he has filled efficiently for • some time. Greens Creek Rutherfordton, Feb. 13.—Central High School defeated the Greens Creek cagers here Friday evening in a one-sided game in the first prelim inary of the state Basketball Elim ination Series. Greens Creek was entirely outclassed from every angle, and during the entire game were able to score only four field goals. Cool Springs was leading seven to six at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Cool Springs scored six points to Central Hi's four and was still leading thirteen to ten at the half. Central Hi, by scoring six points to two for Cool Springs, was leading sixteen to fifteen at the end of the third quarter. He used as his subject, "The Flaming Sword," which his audience greatly enjoyed. j Mr. Robert Freeman has been ser iously ill. His many friends will re gret to hear of his illness. i , Mr. T. 0. Stallings had the mis | fortune to lose a fine cow last week. Mr. P. C. Hunt had as his guest ! Sunday, Rev. K. N. Snipes. Mr. Charlie Self spent Friday night at Cliffside. Mr. James C. Melton and family of Spindale, spent Saturday night with Mr. Melton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Melton. The friends of Mr. Buren Martin -will be sad to learn of his untimely J death.. Mr. Julius Self visited his daugh ter near Charlotte Friday night. Those visiting Miss Nannie Mel ton Sunday were the fallowing Miss Dean Self, Messrs. JMikey Toney, and Charlie Self. We wish to thank the many friends for their kindness and love shown us during the sickness and death of our dear beloved wife and mother, also for the beautiful floral offering. Springs "Golden Tornado" scored eight points to four for Central Hi, to win by a three point margin. This was the "Golden Tornado's" third straight win over the Central Hi quintet. Cool Springs vs. Lattimore Cool Springs will meet the Latti more five in their third state cham pionship game, next Friday at eight o'clock.
