CURB MARKET OPENED SATURDAY Thirteen Sellers Display Coun try Produce on Opening Day. The Forest City Curb Market open ed Saturday morning at 8 o'clock. Thirteen sellers exhibited produce for sale on the opening day, they being Mesdames G. W. Rollins, M. M. Young, H. C. Vickers, E. H. Dal ton, A. V. Hamrick, D. S. Carpenter, W. E. Lewis, J. D. A surprisingly lot of country pro duce was exhibited on the opening day. Eggs, milk, cream, cakes, saus age, chickens, turnips, hams, candy, pork and a large amount of other items were displayed and did not lack a market. In fact, the greater portion of the produce was sold be fore 10 o'clock. The curb market building, located at the rear of the Farmers Hard ware Co., was built Wednesday of last week, by the agricultural stu dents of the local high school, un der the direction of Prof. D. H. Sut ton, the farmers of the surrounding community and members of the lo cal Kiwanis Club. The building has at present forty stalls for displaying produce, but when the summer season opens another row of twenty stalls will be placed in the center of the floor. The market is in charge of Mrs. M. M. Young, as manager. The mar ket opens at 8 o'clock on Tuesdays and Saturdays and closes at 11:30 on Tuesdays and 2 p. m. on Saturdays. AVONDALE NEWS Avondale, March 21.—Miss Essie Ledford, the charming daughter of Mrs. J. L. Hawkins, visited her broth er Sunday afternoon. She was ac companied home by Misses Jennie Pearl, Ethel, and Vera Beachboard, of Forest City. 1 Mr. Ernest Hall, of Alexander, [spent Sunday with his sister, Mrs. J. I B. Hawkins, of Avondale. Little Miss Betty Wooton who has been very ill with pneumonia is im proving. ! Little Miss Mildred Wilson is very ill at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. John Ward has been visiting Mrs. Ward's mother, of Alexander. The Misses Nellie Hawkins, Pan dora Calton, and Mr. Boyd Haw kins spent Sunday afternoon in Hen rietta. Miss Julia Scoggins is very ill at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hawkins visit ed Mr. Hawkin's sister, Mrs. Hamp Jolly, of Caroleen. Their baby Betty is very ill with pneumonia. Those who visited Mr. and Mrs. John Grant Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. John Robersoc and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brown and family, and little Miss Betty Bernice Hawkins. Miss Nellie Roberson returned home after spending two weeks in Modoc, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Colton and lit tle son, Jean, spent a Sunday with Mr.. Calton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Calton. Mrs. Brack Hardin is on the sick list at this time. Paul Grady Hardin, aged seven weeks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Hardin quietly passed away last Sun day night after suffering several days with bronchial pneumonia. The funeral services was held at the home Monday with Rev. H. C. Sisk, Rev. L. N. Eply and Rev. H. C. Kiser in charge Interment was in the Round Hill cemetery at Union Mills Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Lytles, of Mill street, recently, a son, John, Jr. BARRS HAVE A\ DAUGHTER Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Barrs, of Hick ory, announce the birth of a daugh ter, Mary Louise on March 17. Mr. Barrs formerly lived at Spindale and is well known in this county. ! WEST END NEWS West End, Forest City, March 21. —Rev. E. O. Cole, the presiding elder of the Maridjp district, spent the week-end with Rev. J. B. Tabor, Jr., and was present at Pleasant Grove Sunday moyning at 11:00 o'clock and delivered a' marvelous sermon, after which the second quarterly meeting was held. Mr. Cole presided in his usual and efficient manner. Mr. Algar Trout, of Saluda, S. C., spent Monday night of last week with his mother, Mrs. W. G. Trout. Mrs. William Geer of Forest City, spent last week with Mi*, and Mrs. G. W. Long, Jr. Sorry to note that Mrs. J. I. Grose is suffering with attack of rheuma tism. Rev. E. 0. Cole and Rev. J. B. Tabor, Jr., were the dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Cole and Mrs. Alpha Cole. j Mrs. E. M. Lawing was called last week to pn the ac count of the illness of her daughter, Mrs. J. P. Williamson. The Senior Epworth League, of Pleasant Grove, has recently bee j re organized. The following officers were elected: President, Miss Reba Blanton; vice-president, Mrs. R. L. Williamson; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Sloan Grose; correspondent sec retary, Mr. Craig McClure; supter intendent of first department, Miss Statha Long; superintendent of sec ond department, Miss Ailene Phil- lips; superintendent of third depart ment, Miss Alma Hardin; superin tendent of fourth department, Miss Iva Butler;, era agent, Miss Esth erlene Young. Sunday night at the prayer meeting hour, a service of in stalling the officers was"' conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. B. Tabor, Jr., in a very beautiful and impressive manner. Wednesday of the past week, sev eral 'members of the Auxiliary of Pleasant Grove, met at the church and partook of the World-Wide Pray er meeting, which was very interest ing as well as beneficial. After prayer meeting, the Baby Division gave the regular program for the quarter, it proved to be enjoyable for all present. FLOYD'S CREEK NEWS Forest City, R-l, March' 2Q. —Rev. A. G. Melton filled his regular ap pointment at Floyd's Creek Sunday afternoon. There was a very good attendance considering the weather. Mr. Elijah Holland and family, of Sharon, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. White Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Green, of Spin dale, and Mr and Mrs. Barto Wilson were visitors at Mr. Frank Green's Sunday. v Mr. and Mrs. Nash Fite, of Hen rietta, spent Sunday with Mr. J. M. Maun»y and family. Messrs. Gordon and Garnal Wall have had measles, but are better, we are glad to note. Miss Birdie Byrd spent Friday night with Mr. and &rs. D. E. White.
