The cities already signed up are as follows: North Carolina: Granite Falls, Rutherford College, Connelly Springs, Maiden, Cherryville, Hunt ersville, Rutherfordton, Spindale, Bessemer City, Kings Mountain, with Lincolnton having given approval which requires 30 days to become ef fective. j South Carolina: Landrum, Campo bello, Chesnee, Clover, Blacksburg, Gaffney, York, Cowpens, Hickory, Grove, Sharon, Duncan, Jonesville, Easley, Simpsonville, Woodruff, Union, Fort Lawn, Central, West minster, Belton, Laurens, Tonea Path, Newberry, Prosperity, Ab beville and Aiken. The company agrees to lay the pipes and pay the expense of install ing it in the homes and places of business. Farmers within reach of the gas lines may also obtain service. Harrill Will Take Over Mail Carrying July 1 From Gaffney to Ruth erfordton Gaffney, S. C., June 11.—Post master F. B. Gaffney, of this place, announced Wednesday receipt of ad vices from the postofficc department at Washington to the effect that H. Glenn Harrill, of Bostic, N. C., had been awarded the contract for car rying the mail on the star route from Gaffney to Rutherfordton, beginning July 1. Mr. Harrill's bid was $1,698.- 76 per year. He will be awarded the contract for four years. Lee Philbeck, of Forest City, has held the contract for the past sev eral months. The schedule calls for the carrier to leave Gaffney at 5:30 a. m., and J arrive at Rutherfordton at 8:45 a. m., ! daily, except Sundays. Returning, the carrier leaves Rutherfordton upon re [ ceipt of the mail from Asheville, but in any case not later than 9:30 a. m. ! a. m., and is due to arrive at Gaffney in three and one-fourth hours. The star route serves the follow ing towns: Cliffside, Henrietta, Av ondale, Caroleen, Ellenboro, Bostic, Forest City, Spindale and Rutherford ton, all in North Carolina. The route is a little more than 40 miles long. DALTON-HUTCHESON WEDDING, JUNE 30 Rutherfordton, June 11. —The fol lowing announcement will be of inter est to the many friends in the Caro linas and Virginia: "Mrs. William F. Hutcheson an nounces the engagement of her daughter, Mary Stuart, to Mr. Ralph Toms Dalton. The wedding will take place in June." Miss Hutcheson, of Waynesboro, Va., is an only daughter. She re ceived her education at the Nor mal school of Virginia, Harrison burg, and at Columbia university, New York. For the past four years she has been a teacher in the city schools at Harrisonburg. Miss Hut cheson is a member of an old fam ily of Virginia. Dr. Dalton was reared in Ruther ford county and is well known here. He attended Bingham Mili tary school, Asheville and the Uni versity of North Carolina. He is now connected with the R. J. Rey nolds Tobacco company as sales man ager of the Roanoke division, with headquarters at Roanoke, Va. He is the son of Mrs. William Dalton, of Rutherfordton. Miss Effie J. Dalton of this place, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Dalton of Forest City and John Anderson, Jr., of Raleigh, are among those in this state who will attend the wedding which will occur Saturday evening, June 30 in the First* Presbyterian church of Waynesboro, Va. M'BRAYER DIES IN SHELBY Brother of Mr. Reuben Mc- Brayer, of This City, Pass es Wednesday Shelby, June 11.—Although death was expected, a host of friends were made sad June 5, by the passing of Mr. Marshall Mcßrayer at the Shel by hospital where he had been a patient for seven months, suffering from a form of paralysis of which he was a victim for a year or so, in capacitating him for work, j Mr. Mcßrayer was the son of Mr. ( and Mrs. D. O. Mcßrayer and was born near Prospect church in the county 49 years ago. He was a prominent merchant here for many years and a travelling salesman for 15 years. He was well and favor ably known, generous, kind hearted and affable. Those who knew him were drawn to him by ties of devo tion because of his loyalty. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 from the home of his sister, Mrs. J. Lawrence Lackey on West War ren street by Revs. Zeno Wall Hugh K. Boyer and H. N. McDiarmid, pastors of the three-up-town church es. He joined New Prospect Baptist church in boyhood and retained his membership there all his life. Inter ment was in Sunset cemetery here.
