ROACH Editor THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 1928 BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES There were 365 in Sunday School last Sunday. That was four more than the previous Sunday. The pastor read Ist Cor. 3: 7-16 and the subject was "Your's and Christ's". There was a meeting of the Sun day School officers at the Church at seven o'clock Sunday evening. Rev. R. C. Smith read John 1: 1-18 for the scripture lesson at the eve ning hour and his text was the 14th verse of this passage,'"The Word be came flesh, etc." The subject was "Incarnation." We were glad to have several vis itors with us last Sunday. Among those present Sunday evening were Mr. and Mrs. A. M. McKinney and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Stockton of Ellenboro. On next Sunday morning at eleven o'clock there is to be an ordination service when the new deacons will be ordained. The church has fifteen Deacons elected to serve for three years. Each year the term of five of them expires and five others are elected by the church to take their places and serve for three years. Af ter a deacon has been out of the of fice of Deacon for one year he may be elected again. BOY SCOUTS All members of the local troop of Scouts were present Monday night j at their regular meeting except two who for some reason were absent. They planned at this meeting for their Fish Stew Supper they are to give at the banquet hall of the Mem orial building on next Friday night. Mr. D. C. Splawn has been secured to arrange for the fish stew and they expect to be ready to begin serving about six o'clock Friday evening of this week. Some of the boys' mothers are expected to be there to superin tend. In addition to this the boys have quite a number 'of useful and ornamental articles for sale. There are hand painted vases, flower bas kets woven with reed and raffia, and several buffet sets and dinner sets with attractive hand painted designs and many other articles which will be offered for sale at very reasonable prices. The boys have not made all the things that are for sale, but they have made several things including rustic flower baskets and stands and are busy this week when time can be had for making more. Webb at Forest City. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Clarence M. Collins and children have moved this week to Paw Creek, near Charlotte, where Mr. Collins will direct a band. We regret very much to lose Mr. and Mrs. Collins. For several years Mr. Collins has directed the Haynes Band of Cliffside and the band at Avondale as well as the Collins Or chestra here. Mrs. Collins was a teacher in the Primary Department of the Baptist Sunday school and will be missed there. The bands gave a concert at Flat Rock, last Sunday afternoon and a large number went from here to hear them play. We do not know at present who will take Mr. Collins' place with the bands. * * * Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Blanton and son, Jack of Gaffney, S. C., spent the week end here with Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Blanton and motored to Lake Lure Sunday afternoon. * * * Mr. Jonas Waters, of near Gilkey and a former Cliffside boy who grad uated at Boone this spring, was hen visiting friends Monday. He lias ac cepted a position with the U. S. Map Co., and will begin work at Sparta, Tenn., Thursday of this week. ♦ * * Mrs. Alpha Cole and Mr. and Mrs. D. C.
