CAR JUMPS PRECIPICE,
OCCUPANTS ARE UNHURT
Chimney Rock, July 3. —One of
the narrowest escapes from death ev
er seen in this section of the county
occurred here last Friday morning at
Spurgeon Taylor, and occupied by
Spurgeon Taylor, and accupied by
wife and three children, all of Glenn
Rock, Pa., hit a car driven by Mr. J.
M. Harrill, of Forest City, turned
around in the highway and skidded
over an embankment and down a
deep precipice. The car lodged furth
er down the precipice against a tree,
with none of the occupants hurt.
Mr. Harrill, accompanied by Mr.
G. C. King, was driving west in the ,
Chimney Rock development. Mr..
Taylor coming east, at a rapid rate
of speed, rounded a curve and struc
Mr. Harrill's machine. Mr. Taylor'
car was knocked around by the im-,
pact, which caused it to head over
the embankment and jump the pre
cipice. A tree stopped it from going
further down the mountain. The oc-J
cupants attribute the steel frame of
the closed car as the means of saving
their lives.
Neither car suffered any consid
erable damage.
