MRS. D. A. CORDELL
DIED THURSDAY
Funeral Services Held Friday
at Gilboa Church For
Weil-Known Woman
Gilkey, July 9.—Mrs. D. A. Cor
dell, aged 62, died at her home near
here Thursday night at 7:45. Mrs.
Cordell had been ill for several
months anJ had been confined to
her; bed since about the first of
March.
Funeral services were held at Gil
boa Methodist church Friday after
noon, and were in charge of Rev. W.
R. Ware, of Rutherfordton, and Rev.
E. P. White.

She is survived by her husband, D.
A. Cordell, four children and two
sisters. The children are J. E. Cor
dell, of the Shiloh community, Ruth
erfordton, R-l;. Horace Cordell, of
Marion; C. T. Cordell, of near Gil
key; Lox Cordell, who lives at home.
The sisters are Mrs. James Hyder,
of Spindale and Mrs. Joe Hyder, of
Landrum, S. C.

Pleasant Hill Baptist church. ;

Bostic, R-2, July 9.—We are hav
ing some hot weather at last. The
crops are looking fine, plenty of
fruit and wheat also is good in this
section.
Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon Bridges are
receiving congratulations upon the
birth of a fine girl Jessie Ruth, born
July sth. Both mother and baby are
doing fine.
Mrs. Ed Melton and children and
Mrs. Sarah Melton were the evening
guests of Mrs. W. E. Stacey Satur
day.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Self a
girl, July 2nd, but death claimed it
a few hours later.
Mr. James Wells and sister, Jen
nie Myrtle, visited Mrs. Earl Stacey
one evening last week.
Mr. and Mrs. George Jones and
children, of Shelby, spent Sunday
night here with Mr .and Mrs. Earl
Stacey.
Miiss Jessie Stacey is spending a
week with her cousins, Ivlisses Vir
ginia and Jewell Jones, at Shelby.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stacey and
children visited near Oak Grove Sun
day afternoon.

week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

LEWIS REUNION JULY 29 ,
The Lewis family will hold its an
nual reunion at the home of Mr.
George Biggerstaff, four miles north
of Rutherfordton, on the Chimney
Rock highway, Sunday July 29. The
reunion will be an all day affair. It
is announced that Dr. William An
derson, of Blacksburg, will be pres
ent and address the gathering some
time during the day. All connections
of the Lewis family, and all others
who care to attend, are cordially in
vited to be present. Dinner will be
spread in the yard at noon.

Ferry, July 9th.—The W. M. U.
of Floyd's Creek church met at the
church Sunday afterpoon with Mrs.
T. C. Holland presiding. An inter
esting program was given after
which the business meeting was held.
Many from this vicinity attended
the funeral and burial of Mr. G. O.
Holland at High Shoal last Sunday
afternoon.
Mr. R. E. Honeycutt spent most of
last week near Chimney Rock, fish
ing some while there. His family
joined him there Friday, returning
home in the afternoon.
Mr. C. E. Keeter and family, and
Miss Cleo Keeter of Lincolnton, Ga.,
spent last week at Mr. J. S. Sherlin's.
They left for their home Saturday.
Mrs. L. L. Scruggs spent last
Thursday night with her daughter,
Mrs. Walter Roach, at Alexander.
Mr. and Mrs. Vance Rollins, of
Alexander, spent last Wednesday, the
fourth, with Mrs. Rollins parents,

Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Simmons
and children, of Rockingham, visited
for a short while Sunday afternoon
at the homes of Mr. W. P. Alexander,
Mr. Gaither Kennedy. They also vis
ited Mr. Simmons' old home place at
Mrs. J. A. White's. They were ac
companied by Mr. J. R. Anderson
and son, of Rutherfordton. Their
friends were all delighted to see them
again.

large number of relatives and friends
gathered at Mr. Rufus Wilkie's last
Sunday and gave Mrs. Wilkie a
beautiful birthday dinner, it being
her sixty-fourth birthday.

a very interesting program at Shiloh
Sunday night. We hope they will
come again soon.
Miss Lucy Roach gave her Sunday
school class "Intermediate girls" a
picnic on the church lawn Saturday
