THE SPINDALE BASKETBALLCLUB RE-ORGANIZED Will Begin Practice This Week and Play First Game First Week in November Spindale, Oct. 22.—At a meeting held at the Spindale House Thursday night the Spindale basketball club was re-organized and officers for the season elected. J. E. Berry, superin tendent of the Spindale House and former all southern basketball player, was selected to serve again this year t as coach of the team. Clarence Grif fin, manager during the past two seasons, was again re-elected as bus iness manager. J. U. Grose, last year's flashy forward, who retires from the game this year on account of impair ed health, was elected assistant bus iness manager. The team will begin practice work this week, practicing four nights per week, for a short while. The team will play its first game about No- j vember Ist. Prospects for this year's team is j good. A splendid line-up has been se cured and it is expected that the club will make even a better record than that of last year. A total of twenty-six games were played last year, of which the local club won seventeen. The locals piled • up 959 points to their opponents 851 during last season. Berry and Sher rill played in twenty-five of the games, making 252 and 223 points re spectively. The other players scored in this order: Grose, Williams, Yel ton, Clay, Bullington and Walker. Sherrill, Berry, Williasm, Yelton and Clay are among the old team mates back this year. Hardin, of last year's Florence Pirates; Boone of Kings Mountain Mountaineers and Shehan of Inman, S. Mr. Weav er made a great appeal to the Demo cracy of the county and was often cheered in his speech. He spoke Fri day evening in the auditorium at El , lenboro, and was again greeted by a large audience. He presented the facts and principles of the present campaign in a masterful and force ful way during both of his speaking engagements. Goode preached a good sermon at Sulphur Springs, Sunday afternoon. Miss Pauline Cole delightfully en tertained her friends with a tacky party, Saturday night. Miss Elsie Cole and Mr. Arthur Henson received the prizes for being dressed the tack iest. All present enjoyed the occas ion very much and hope to be en tertained again soon. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Robbins gathered at their pretty home Sunday and gave them a birthday dinner. The long ta ble in the yard was filled with all kinds of delicious food, which was en joyed by all present. Mr. Robbins is very strong and ac tive for his age. He was seventy years old on Saturday the 13th and picked two hundred pounds of cotton that day. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. L. B.
