The Cliffside News The Cliff3ide News Is published each week in connection witjjb Th* Forest City Courier. B. E. ROACH ... Editoi THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1928 EDITORIAL We have sometimes wondered ii the people of our town really apprec iate the fact that The Courier has given us a page all for our own. Last week when "The Cliffside News" fail ed to appear there was a cry from all quarters wanting to know why there was no "Cliffside Page" in the paper. It showed that quite a number do appreciate the page and missed it when it failed to appear. The Editor was not responsible for we sent in the largest "batch" of news notes in many months. Nor was the Editor of the Courier responsible. He will ex plain the matter very likely in this issue of the paper. Let us say that none of you were more disappointed than the writer because we had a number of important articles includ ing a fine article from the Methodist church concerning the fine work of the pastor during the past year and a writeup concerning the tragic death of our townsman and splendid young man, Addie Dobbins with a card of thanks from the family and several other items. We regret it as much as any of you, but it was unavoidable on the part of the Editors. BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES The pastor was away holding a meeting at Stedman, N. C., last week returning home Monday of this week. Mrs. Smith met him in Char lotte Monday afternoon. Members of the W. M. S. had charge of the prayer service last week with Mrs. R. C. Smith, president, in charge. An interesting program was rendered by the ladies. On Sunday morning Rev. Paul Stewart of Green's Creek brought a fine message which was appreciated by his hearers. Rev. Stewart is a young man who is possessed of a per sonality and manner that attracts and holds his hearers. Sunday evening at six o'clock the B. Y. P. U.'s met as usual and after brief sessions all came together to hear an address by Dr. J. F. Davis, president of Boiling Springs Junior College. The assembly room was well filled with members of the Unions and others who came in to hear Dr. Davis' address. Dr. Davis brought the message at the evening preaching hour and a large audience was present to hear him. Dr. Davis was a stranger to most of those present, but after he be gan his message this fact - was en tirely forgotten and the man himself forgotten in the interest his message inspired. There were several visitors present Sunday, especially at the evening serice. Mr. E. Husky of Avondale was present and led the music and Messrs. C. H. Wilson, Earl Harrill and others were also present from Avondale. Prof, and Mrs. A. C. Lovelace of Caroleen were among many others present Sunday evening from out of town. We are always glad to wel come visitors to our church. Among the home folks we were glad to have a number from the Methodist church. We regret to note that little Miss Elizabeth Hendrick', daughter of Mr and Mrs. Maurice Hendrick is critic ally ill here at her home with scarlel fever. As we write this it is report' ed that there seems to be a littl( change for the better in her condi tion. All that two doctors, two nurs es and loving hands of family ant friends can do is being done for her STOVE REPRESENTATIVE AT CLIFFSIDE THIS WEEK Mr. G. W.
