BL ANTON " CLAIMED BY DEATH Mooresboro Citizen Succumbs to Paralysis at Age of Seventy-One Years Mooresboro, Oct. 22.—John Batie Blanton, age 71, died at a hospital in Morganton Friday after a short illness. He was one of the best known men of this section of the county, be ing president of the Mooresboro Cot ton Oil Company and having other important business connections. He was unconscious 12 hours preceding his death, and died of paralysis. He was twice married, first to Miss Barr of Lincolnton. After her death he married Lillian Purcell of Mooresboro, who survives with ten children as follows: R. S. and W. M. Blanton, Charlotte; Mrs. J. A. Mc- Brayer; Mrs. J. A. Lucas, R. P. and John Blanton, Jr., all of Mooresboro; Charles and Fred Blanton, Columbus, the latter a banker of Polk county; Mrs. Frank Straight, Rock Hill, S. C., and Mrs. C. O. Champion, Moores boro. One brother Hacket Blanton and one half brother, Jim Wilson, both of Shelby, survive with one sis ter, Mrs. Andrews of Roxboro. He was a native of Rutherford county, and was born near Bostic. Funeral services and burial were held at Sandy Run Baptist church, Moores boro Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Revs. J. W. Suttle of Shelby, and A. T. Stoudemire, of Av ondale, officiating. He was a Baptist and one of the outstanding citizens of this section. A large crowd attend ed the funeral services. A German actor, Parlatus, has I broken the endurance speaking rec ord, it is said, talking continuously for more than 45 hours. We're proud to say that many obscure American women could probably outdo him in any fair contest. Kinzie. This , is the first meeting of the committee ; since early in the summer, on account |of the majority of the troops being in camp at Lake Lanier and due to the fact that the scout executive, R. i M. Schiele, has been in charge of the camp.
