The Courier is giving a hurried account of the general election. The re sult is not in doubt. Hoover has von bv an overwhelming vote. I Max Gardner has won. At least four Democratic Congressmen are in grave danger. Congressman Weaver may win out. Herbert Hoover went into - the lead in North Carolina as returns continued coming in early Wednes day, reports giving him an unoffic ial majority of approximately 2,- 000, with expectations that he would carry the state from 10,000 to 20,000 votes. Hoover is leading in all states ex- 1 cept a block in the deep south and in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The Republicans made gains in both the senate and the house. Smith lost his own state of New York; Hoover carried his home state of California. Roosevelt for governor and Cope land for United States senator, ran ahead of Smith in New York state and are leading their Republican op ponents for those offices. Six Democratic house seats were won by the Republicans in Kentucky. Hoover is leading in the southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee, and has a fair chance in Texas. Hoover is running ahead in the corn belt and border states. Mr. Hoover's birthplace, West Branch, lowa, gave the Republican nominee a 12 to 1 vote over Gov ernor Smith.
