Informl Dance
Miss Ruth Robertson entertained
at an informal dance on last Wednes- I
day evening at her home in Caro
leen, honoring her house guest, Miss
Kathleen Dobbins, of Bessemer City.
The home was beautifully decorated
with baskets and vases of shasta
daises and gladiolas for the occa
sion.

The guests were Miss Kathleen
Dobbins, Bessemer City, Misses Mar
garet Haynes, Ruby Smith, Lois
Whisnant, Ruth Robertson, of Caro
laen, and Messrs. Jimmie Brice and
Harris Ligon, of Shelby, Dr. Moss
and Mr. Chas Carpenter, of Cliff
side and Mr. Don Smith, of Avon- 1
dale.
Fruit punch and sandwiches were
served.

Birthday Party.
S. E. Harrill, Jr., was hostess at a
lovely birthday party on Saturday
afternoon from 4 to 6 o'clock, cele
brating his eleventh birthday. Twen
ty of his little friends were present
and each enjoyed the many delight
ful games that were played. Music
on the victrola was also enjoyed. At
five o'clock the little guests were
marched into the dining room where
the table was beautifully decorated
with flower pots of sweet peas, dah
lias, white roses and other flowers.
In the center of the table was a
beautiful iced cake decorated with
eleven pink candles. Ice cream, cake

Mrs. Cecil Grice
Honored at Woodruff
Woodruff, S. C., July 6.—Miss Ger
trude Fanning entertained a number
of her friends Wednesday afternoon
in honor of her house guest, Mrs.
Cecil Grice of Forest City, N. C., at
her home on Beacon street. The
guests included the bridge club mem
bers. The home was attractively ar
j ranged with shasta daises and ferns
to give a pretty background for the
five tables of players. Dainty score
cards of ladies dressed in the nation
al colors, suggestive of the holiday
season, kept tab of the progressions.
Upon arrival the guests were served
punch from a beautiful nook in the
hall by Mrs. W. H. Fanning, mother
of the hostess, and after cards were
laid aside a salad course was served.
Mrs. Grice was presented a pair of
chiffon hose as a guest's gift, while
Miss Elizabeth Switzer, bride-elect
was given a hand painted linen scarf.
The guests were in addition to the

Gettysburg Celebration
Dr. William Anderson, prominent
physician and (Confederate veteran,
of Blacksburg, attended the unveil
ing of the North Carolina statue at
Gettysburg battle ground last week.
Dr. Anderson was especially invited
by Governor O. Max Gardner aiid
the United Daughters of the Confed
eracy of North Carolina to attend.
Dr. Anderson is a native of Ruther
ford county and served with the Con
federate forces in the War Between
the States.
