EDITORIAL
It seems that at least a few here
missed the Cliffside Page in this pa
per last week. We quote here from
a letter received from The Courier
which explains the matter.
"You will notice that The Cliffside
News Page is omitted from The
Courier this week.
"Your news letter arrived today,
(Wednesday) at 2:30 just as we
were preparing to close the last
form. The letter was postmarked
Cliffside, July 23, 8 A. M., showing
that it left there yesterday morning.
We are unable to account for it be
ing delayed so long.
"We took the principal items of
the letter and combined them into
one general news letter.
"Very sorry indeed that the letter
did not arrive sooner. This letter
is to explain the situation and I feel
sure you will understand."
BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES
Last Sunday was a good day with
us, especially were the preaching ser
vices well attended. There were 360
in Sunday School with 20 visitors
and 9 new members enrolled in the
Sunday School.
For the Scripture lesson the pas
tor, Rev. R. C. Smith read Ex. 19:
24 and 25 and Ex. 20:1-26. The
subject was "Present Day Idols."
We were glad to have with us
Miss Jane Campbell who sang a solo.
Miss Campbell is now nurse at Rose
mont Camp for children at Harris
and is well known here, having serv
ed here quite a while as community
nurse.
\
We failed to state that the text for
the morning sermon was 1 Cor. 10:
14. "Wherefore, my dearly beloved,
flee from idolitry." In this message
the pastor showed how that it is not
necessary to bow down to gaven im
ages in order to be an idolitor, but
that anything that comes between us
and God is our idol.
At the close of the service Mrs.
D. B. Tate was received into the
membership of the church by letter.
We extend to her a cordial welcome.
Continuing the series of Sunday
night messages on the subject "What
is coming" the pastor read Ephesians
3:1-12 and the subject for the even
ing was "This present age."
We were delighted to have Mr.
Charles Metcalf of the Methodist
church sing for us. As there was no
preaching service at the Methodist
Church Sunday many of their con
gregation worshipped with us at both
services Sunday.
Beginning next Monday night
there is to be a study course held
at the church each night of the week
for the W. M.-S. and its auxiliaries.
