OAK GROVE NEWS Bostic, R-l, Dec. 31.—Mr. K. M. and Herbert Randall were visitors in Oak Grove last week. Miss Leigh Harrill, of Rutherford ton, spent the holidays at home. Rev. C. F. Tate and Messrs. W. P. and Clarence Tate were in Asheville Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harrill were visitors at Mr. L. B. Lowerys Thurs day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Biggerstaff of Rock Hill, S. C., were visitors in this community last week. Miss Marie Biggerstaff of Morgan ton spent Christmas at home. Rev. C. F. Tate and family, of near Winston-Salem are visiting ac Mr. W. P. Tates. Mr. M. B. Beam and family spent Friday at Mrs. Delia Randalls. Little Miss Margaret Walker of near Lattimore spent a few days last week with her aunt, Miss Beu lah Magness. Those visiting Mr. W. P. Tate Wednesday were Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Tate and children of Avondale, and Mr. and Mrs. Chivous Tate. Miss Ethel Tate of Asheville, spent last week at home. Rev. J. N. Randall and family, of Farmville, visited relatives in the community last week. Mrs. Martha Randall returned home with them. Mr. Floyd Tate is in the hospital at Rutherfordton. We hope he will soon be well again. Miss Mae Harrill, of Charlotte, is spending a few days at home. Messrs T. B. George and Glen Har rill were visitors at Mrs. J. M. Ran dalls Friday. Despite the bad weather there was a large crowd present at Oak Grove Monday night for the Christmas tree and program. The program was in charge of Mrs. J. E. Hipp. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hawkins and daughter, Marjorie, and Mrs. Ern ; e Cherrie spent Christmas day at Mr. M. E. Hawkins. Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Groce anc children, Wilbur and Margaret, and Walter were visitors at Mr. W. P. Tates. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Beam and children, Gweneth and Francis and Miss Docia Beam spent Friday at Mr. M. E. Hawkins. Miss Pearl Jolley of Fallston, spent Christmas at home. Mr. T. B. Harrill family spent one day last week at Mr. Howard Harrills. Mr. J. T. Bridges and family of Sharon spent Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. J. M. Bigger staff and Mr. Biggerstaff. Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Mag ness and daughter, Ruby and Miss I Mattie Magness spent Wednesday at Mr. Cletus Walkers near Lattimore. Miss Susan Biggerstaff spent the week-end at the home of her broth er, Mr. Carl Biggerstaff. Mr. C. B. Harrill has purchased a new Ford sedan. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Randall and little son James Harris were visitors at Mr. K. M. Randalls last week. PROVIDENCE NEWS Forest City, R-2, Dec. 30.—The people of this community seemed to enjoy Christmas very much, despite bad, rough weather. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Smith had as their dinner guests Christmas day Miss Bettie Fanning, Mr. Paul Harris and family, of Rutherfordton; Mrs. Sarah Florence and son, of Norfolk, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, Mr. Emory Smith and Mr. Horace Fan ning. Mr. Will Phillips and family spent last Thursday with their son, Walter Phillips, at Henrietta. Mr. John McDaniel and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hardin, of Forest City, were the dinner guests of Mr. Vance Harrill and family on Christmas day. Mr. S. E. Harrill and family spent Christmas day with the latter's par ents, Mr and Mrs. A. Brandle. Mr. H. H. Phillips and family and Miss Ethel Phillips spent last Wed nesday with Mrs. Phillips' mother, Mrs. Daniel, of Forest City. Mrs. Spain Butler is seriously ill at this time. Mr. Lester Lancaster of this com munity, and Miss Zeno Laws, of Car oleen, were married in Gaffney last week. Misses Evie Waters and Bertha Carver of Asheville Normal, are at home for the holidays. WEST END NEWS Forest City, R-3, Dec. 30. —Mr. Clyde Trout, of Oakdale, Tenn., spent Christmas with his mother, Mrs. W. G. Trout. Mrs. J. G. Baber and son, Mr. George Baber, spent Christmas day very pleasantly in Blacksburg, S. C., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Michael Marks. Miss Margaret McDonald will re turn to Greensboro Thursday to re sume her studies at the N. C. C. W. after spending the Yuletide with home folks. Mrs. U. F. McMahan, who has been confined to her bed for several days is slowly recovering. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Cole had as their guests last week, Mrs. John Best and son, Mr. Labe Best of Clyde. Mr. C. F. Miss Ailene Phillips, a student of the Asheville Normal is spending the Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Phillips. The musical Christmas program, which was given at Pleasant Grove church Tuesday evening of last week was pronounced to be a very enjoy able and excellent occasion. The pro gram consisted of choruses, quartet tes, duets,anthems and two selections by the Pleasant Grove orchestr?. Also Miss Gladys Dalton in a very splendid manner gave a fine reading at the conclusion of the program Santa arrived and treated the Sun day school with candy, nuts, apples, oranges and raisins.
