Delightful Party. Miss Hazel Newton delightfully itertained a number of her friends ith a party Saturday evening at r home on Park street. Forest City, R-2, Jan. 6. —A wed ding of interest to a large circle of friends was that of Mr. Landrum W. Griffin, of Fort Oglethrope, Ga., and Miss Nellie Mae Vaughn, of Greenville, S. C., which occurred at Greenville Christmas. Mr. Griffin, who is a trooper *n the 105 th cavalry, at Fort Ogle thrope, was spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Griffin, when the wedding occurred. Mr. Griffin has returned to Fort 0 Oglethrope, and Mrs. Griffin return ed to Greenville, S. C., where she will make her home for the present. * * * Gamble-Waters. A marriage that came as a sur prise to their many friends was that of Miss Inez Waters to Mr. Spencer Gamble. The wedding took place at the home of Judge Hicks in Spar tanburg, S. C., on Sunday, Dec. 29th, Only the necessary witnesses being present. I Miss Waters is the charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Waters, Forest City, R-2. For the past year she has been an efficient saleslady at Efirds Department store. Mr. Gamble is a prosperous and well known young farmer of the Golden Valley section, where they will make their home with the groom's mother. Their many friends join in wishing them a long and happy life. * * * Engagement Party. The Kathleen Alexander Mission ary Society met with Mrs. C. M. Freeman Tuesday evening, January 7, 1930. The regular business and program was attended to. Then Mrs. Freeman passed papers and pencils and asked each member /to write a news item. After these were read by the hostess the real news of the even ing was passed around: This consist ed pf an attractive card with the picture of a bride and groom and a small card attached, on which was the following: "Mrs. D. N. Davis announces the engagement of her daughter, Lala Davis, to Mr. Carl Weaver, in the spring, nineteen hundred and thirty." Miss Agnes Davis, youngest sister of the future bride gave a reading "How to Get Married," which was very much enjoyed by all and many went away with hopeful hearts. The home was beautifully decor ated in green pot flowers and bloom ing narcissus. The hostess served a delicious salad course in which the color note of green and yellow was observed. Mrs. Freeman then present ed the bride-to-be with ,a beautiful brides book. Each of the Society members wrote in this a good wish. * * * Jones-Spratt. Ellenboro, Jan. 6.—At half past two o'clock on Wednesday evening, January 1 Miss Gertha Estelle Spratt the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Spratt, of Ellenboro, and Mr. Paul Jones, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Jones, of Bostic, were happily married at the home of the bride's parents. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. M. Gold. The bride was lovely in her blue chiffon velvet dress, with the color scheme to match. Miss Spratt finish- THE FOREST CITY COURIER, THURSDAY, JANUARY », 1930. Shortly after the ceremony the left for the groom's home, where a bountiful supper awaited them. They expect to make their home at the home of the groom's parents. Their many friends wish them a happy and successful life. * * v Mrs. E. F. McGruder, of Asheville, is the guest of Mesdames. A. W. Falvey and G. C. McDaniel tfiiis week. Mr. and Mrs. O. Thomas and children have returned from spend ing the holidays with relatives in Kentucky. Miss Virginia Kirby and brother spent last week with their grand mother, Mrs. Kirby in GafTney. Major Dave Glickman left Sun day for a business trip to New York. Mi*. Carmon Parks and Miss Lau ra King spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Price in Chesnee, S. C. Mesdames B B. Doggett, Misses Ruth Doggett, Sudie Young, Ethel Young and Mrs. T. B. Lovelace spent last week-end in Atlanta, Ga. Miss Sara Ruth Doggett returned Wednesday for Brenau college, Gainesville, Ga., after spending the holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Doggett. The most Christmas I had (and the fat bald-headed man was here too) was the night a bunch of us went to see our smiling Ruby Holl and, taking her a water bottle, and a basket of fruit. Did we get a big kick? ~Well, you just try it once. The good friends of the Alexan der Mfg., Co., weave room did some real Waysiding and presented Ruby with an electric heating pad. ' "JUST ME" Forest City. Miss Jennie Davis is confined to her bed with flu. Her friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mesdames M. H. Hewitt, T. B. Lovelace, John Carpenter and Missss Sudie Young and Jennie Mae Harrill were shopping Monday in Charlotte. Mrs. M. D. Honeycutt and child ren, of Richmond, Va., spent the week-end here with her sister, Mrs. Grover C. King, and Mr. King. Rev. # M. F. Moores., pastor of the local Methodist church, was taken to the Rutherford hospital last Friday > morning for treatment. His condi » tion is unimproved as we go to press. I Tuesday morning Mr. Moores was seriously ill, and had two severe chills. Rev. Mr. Parks filled Mr. I Moores pulpit Sunday evening. Mrs. W. B. Whitlock and sons, ; Charles and Ralph, spent Sunday ! with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Whitlock, j of Hendersonville. Miss Jewel Whit- ' lock returned home with them after i spending a week. Mr. Arthur Butler Kennedy, of Charlotte, spent the holidays with Mr. J. L. Butler and familv- Mr. W. L. Horn was la Charlotte on business Tuesday.
