Misses Louise Graham, Frances Gladden and Miss McKelvy, of Lex ington were the week-end guest of Miss Rebecca Perrin. Mrs. J. W. Bolt, of Laurens, and Mrs. E. T. Richburg, of Clinton, S. C., who have been visiting their daughter and son, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Richburg, on East Main street, returned Sunday to their homes. Mrs. F. I. Barber is visiting her daughters, Misses Catherine and Elizabeth Barber at N. C. C. W., in Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Carlisle, of Sanford, spent Saturday and Sun day here with Mrs. P. D. Harrill,, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Carlisle are moving to 304 Endor Street, where they have a lovely apartment. Mr. Lee B. president of The Cleveland Star, Shelby, was in Forest City Tuesday on business, and was a caller at The Courier office. Mrs. E. E. McCurry is closing- out satin spring- hats at 25c. FORMER CLIFFSIDE MAN SHOT TO DEATH SATURDAY Gaffney, Feb. 4. —Smith Hammett. a former Cliffside man, was shot to death at a filling station near Gaf fney, Saturday night, after an argu ment. in which Hammett attempted to run off the owner, Charles God frey. Coroner's jury exonerated Mr. Godfrey at a hearing held the same night. Funeral services were held Mon day afternoon at the Cherokee Bap tist church. WM. A. AUSTELL OF GAFFNEY TAKEN BY DEATH Wm. A. Austell, of Gaffney, S. C., died S.unday night following a short illness of pneumonia fever. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Buford Street Methodist church. He was the father of Mr. J. E.
