Egg Hunt An Easter egg- hunt was given at home of Chief and Mrs. C. R. Price Monday afternoon, which was large ly attended. A number of eggs were hk-den, and the children had an en jovable time in searching for them. Avondale, Apr. 21.—A wedding of wide interest to a number of friends and relatives in this and ad joining counties was that of Miss Ollie Kate Spratt and Mr. Paul Green, which occured Thursday even ing at. the home of the bride, in Avondale. Rev. A. T. Stoudenmire, of Spartanburg, S. C., performed the ceremony. The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The altar and arch were made of Southern smilax and sprrea, with baskets of tulips, Irish lilies and spirea, and other box and cu: flowers. Mrs. Charles Metcalf entered car rying a green waxed taper and light ed the candies. Mr. Charles Metcalf sarg "At Dawning" and "I Love You Truly", accompanied at the piano by Miss Lilah Freeman. To the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march the minister entered taking his place un der the arch. Next came Miss Ruby SffLith, maid of honor, and sister of thr bride, dressed in orchid crepe and tu.ie with shoulder corsage of sweet peas. She was followed by the bride and groom. The bride was attractive ly dressed in china blue chiffon and carried a bouquet of sweethea-t ros.es and sweetpeas. During the im pressive ring ceremony, Miss Free man played softly McDowell's "To a Wild Rose." Miss Freeman wore a gr-ren georgette with shadow lace and alder bouquet of sweetpeas. After a brief farewell Mr. and Mrs. Given left via motor for Spartan bu.-g, S. C., en route for their future :-cne in San Francisco, Calif. Only the immediate family of the briiie and gToom and a few intimate riends witnessed the ceremony Mrs. Green is the attractive daugh ter of Mrs. R. C. Mr. Green recently resigned from the United States army service, where he spent four years in the hospital laboratory at Ft. Bragg. He has an appointment as assistant di rector of the California Chemical Laboratory, at San Francisco, Calif. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. S. It. A visit was made to Cliffside with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Alcock Mon day afternoon and the visitors were much interested in this model mill town. Mr. Richwagen, who is a news paper man, and keenly observant of business conditions in his far native state, said that he was surprised at business conditions in Forest City and Rutherford county, following the closing of the banks, and thought this surmounting of that disaster a true index of the strong stability of both town and county and felt as sured that with a little more time for readjustment this section would be on a better basis for permanent prosperity. M. E. CHURCH EASTER CONCERT Easter Music Program Well At tended—One of Best Ever Given. The Easter .concert given by the Methodist church choir on last Sun day evening was well attended and considered by many to be the best program ever rendered by this choir. Among those singing solo parts were: Mesdames Ernest Burwell Moore. Bert Moore, Misses Annie Lee Biggerstaff, Sally Mae Sitton 'and Mr. Henry Giles. The co-operation of the choir members with their director, Mrs. J. S. Rudisill, during their rehearsals enabled them to carry out the pro gram with unusual grace and ease. The primary and junior depart., ments gave a most impressive pro gram at the Sunday school hour. Special mention should be made of the selections by Trilby Hewitt, Hen rietta Price and dings by little Nancy Sutton and Katherine King were well received. A program of Easter music was given by the young people of the church on Sunday evening, April '•3 th. Outstanding singers on this program were Martha Moores, Kath erine Bradley, and Harry Kendrick. Each program during Easter week was well received. Too much cannot be said in praise of the ca pable and efficient leadership of Mrs. Rudisill, the choir director. WOMAN'S CLUB Dramatic Department. The Dramatic department of the W Oman's club held a most delightful meeting- last Thursday evening in the attractive home of Mrs. J. W. Dal the hostess served delicious refresh- Dalton. Mrs. B. T. Jones and Miss- Louise Lattimore were joint, hostess es to the club. After an interesting business meet ing Mrs. A. C. Finch had charge of the program. She presented Mrs. F. B. Moss, county welfare superinten dent, who gave a review of "Look Homeward Angel" by James Wolf. Mrs. Moss very ably and enthusias tically discussed the book which is more interesting to us because of the fact that James Wolf is a native North Carolinian. At the conclusion of the program the hostesses served delivious refresh ments to the members of the club and several guests. 5jC * » The compositions of Edward Mac- Dowell, one of America's fa mous composers, were given before the Forest City Music Club at the regular meeting Friday afternoon, April 18th at the home of Mrs. F. F. Black, with Mesdames J. T. Cajnp, O. B. Green and Miss Ruth Meares, as joint hostess. The attractive home was made beautiful with spring flowers and Easter decorations. Mrs. Webb, president of the Wo man's Club, presented for our con- sideration the question of combin . ing all departments of the club into one for the coming year. The vote on this matter will be taken at the general meeting in May. .Miss Goggans again called atten tion to music week, which is to be observed by our town and commu nity, May 4-11. The music and Ki wanis clubs are sponsoring this cele tration and it is hoped that the whole community will support it with their presence at the performances. Mrs. Glickman made an appeal for financial help in sending the glee clubs and-'soloists who won in the ~-t to Greensboro. The club members responded enthusias . tic-ally and contributed to this fund. The club was delighted to haze several visitors appear on the program Mr. Johnnie Washburn of the junior club and Mrs. Edelstein played se lections from MacDowell, Miss Helen Bobbitt sang three of the composer's well known songs. Mrs. T. R. Pad gett gave a most interesting talk on the life of MacDowell and his mem orial colony at Peterborough, N. H. At the conclusion of the program the hostess served delicious refresh ments, carrying out the Easter idea. A number of guests were present. PROVIDENCE NEWS ' Forest City, Apr. 22.—Mr. and Mrs. John McDaniel gave an Eas jter dinner last Sunday in honor of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Harrill. Smith and family had as their dinner guests last Sunday, Mr. Herman Noras and family, of Kan napolis, and Mr. Morton Hopper and family, of Shiloh. Mr. Lee Toney gave an egg hunt last Sunday. Miss Lillian Phillips is spending this week with her brother, Mr. Phillips. Miss Gladys Lancaster, of Caro leen, spent Monday with her uncle. Mr. Dennis Butler.
