BUYS LARGE TRACT LAND IN COUNTY Western Carolina Power Co., Acquires Large Holdings in Rutherford and Cleve land Counties. The Western Carolina Power Company, a subsidiary of the Duke Power Company, has recently pur chased over three thousand acres of land in Rutherford county. The land purchased lies for the most part in Sulphur Springs and High Shoals townships on and near Broad River. The land was purchased from the Cliffside Mills, the R. Rj. The deed says in part: The Western Carolina Power Co., a corporation also bought the right, privilege and easement to back, pond, raise or flood the waters qf Main Board River and each and all of the tributaries thereof and to divert said waters through, in, upon, over and or away from the tract of land in connection with the construction, operation, main tenance, repairing, replacing or re newing one or more electric gener ating plants, including dam, power houses and other necessary or de sirable structures on or across Main Broad River the top of any flood gate so erected not to exceed in height the elevation of 680 feet above sea level, U. LAST RITES FOR ASA LOVELACE Funeral Held Wednesday at Hopewell Methodist Church For Aged Citizen. Ellenboro, R-2, June 23.—Funer al service for Mr. Asa Lovelace were held at Hopewell Methodist., church Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. Z. D. Harrill in charge of the service. Mr. Lovelace died Tuesday of com plications, following an illness of several months. I He is survived by seven children, [residing at scattered points through lout the state; and one brother, S. Lovelace, of Spindale; and one sis ter, Mrs. Adam Black, of Hollis. His wife preceded him to the grave three years ago. He was formerly a resident of the community, and .was a member of Hopewell Methodist church. He had a large number of friends in the county, and the fun eral services were largely attended. Interment was in the Hopewell cemetery. AVONDALE NEWS Avondale, June 23.—Mrs. Carl Frye and Miss Martha Hamrick en tertained at the home of the form er on Cone street Tuesday evening with a shower in honor of Mrs. Lewis Womack, who prior to her marriage was Miss Alma Vickers, of Mt. Pleasant. The dining room was attractively decorated with garden flowers. Several interesting games were en joyed. Little Miss Versie Ward and Mas ter Jack Frye dressed as the bride and groom entered the living room and led Mrs. Womack to a table where there were many lovely gifts, including a "rolling pin". She thanked each one in her lovely grac- IOUS manner)., The hostesses served a delicious salad course t 0 the following guests: Misses Rubye Smith, Ruth Cantrell, Grace Hamrick, S. Mrs. John Ward and Mrs.-J. L. Hawkins gave an out door party Sat urday afternoon for little Miss Ver sie Ward, neice of Mrs. Ward and Betty Bernice Hawkins, daughter of Mrs. Hawkins. The little guests gath ered at the home of Mrs* Ward and then together w6nt to the woods where many out door games were ! enjoyed. Miss Dessie Ledford won the prize for pinning the tail on the donkey.
