Mr. Elment Mathis, of Alexander is visiting his aunt, Mrs. Henry Smith. The mill is standing this week for all to take a vacation. Mr. J. I\| Hawkins is spending a few days in Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. John Henson visited in Asheville on Thursday of last week. MISS HELEN DOBBINS AND JOHN ESKRIDGE WED Rutherfordton, June 30.—Miss Helen Mclver Dobbins, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Dobbins of this place, was married Tuesday morning to John Holland Eskridge, of Shelby. Rev. J. W. Hoyle, Jr., performed the impres sive ceremony at the home of the bride's parents at 7:30 a. m. Potted plants, lark spur, sweet peas and Queen Ann's lace, formed the decorations that added much to the occasion. As a prelude, Miss Lela Morris played. "To A Water Lily," and thoughout the ceremony Shubert's serenade was the charm ing musical background. The bride was attractive in a chic traveling en semble of navy georgtete, with ac cessories to match.; The bride is a graduate of the North Carolina college for Women, Greensboro, class of 1929, and taught in the public schools of Shelby the past yea#. She is one of Ruther fordton's most charming and cul tured young ladies. Mr. Eskridge is the youngest son of John Eskridge of Shelby and was i educated at State college, Raleigh. He now holds a position with the Standard Oil company. After an • extended motor trip through Pennsylvania, New York and other points they will be ot home in Shelby. MISS CONNIE FOWLER AND MR. CARTER WED Henrietta, June 28. —Relatives and friends of the contracting parties in North and South Carolina will be pleased to learn of the marriage which occurred Saturday evening at £ o'clock at the Methodist parsonage at Henrietta, when David Carter claimed as his bride Miss Connie Fowler, the Rev. A. W. Lynch, pas tor of the bride, performing the cere mony. Miss Fowler is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F, Fowler, and is cne of Caroleen's popular young ladies, while Mr. Carter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Carter of Clin ton, S. C., a graduate of Clemson college. Mr. Carter has held a po sition with the Henrietta mills at Caroleen for several years,, MOORESBORO R-l Mooresboro, R-l, June 30.—A large number of friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Theron Jolley, with a party Saturday night. They were just recently married. Many interesting g: mes were played and every one went away saying they enjoyed the occasion very much. Several from this community at tended the singing convention at Big Springs Sunday afternoon and all reported some splendid music. Misses Pearl and Ethel Wood, of Avondale, were the week-end guests of Miss Effie Champion. Mr. Sid Wall, has returned home after a visit to Marshall, N. C., with his son, Miv Ray Wall. Quite a number from this com munity attended the funeral of Mr. Will McKinney, Monday- afternoon at the Goode graveyard. Mr. McKin ney was killed in a car wreck at Lawson, W. Va., a few days ago.
