The com niittee-,! according to the many com ments, had the hall decorated more beautifully than ever before and all i available "seats were filled with many iiv the windows and standing. Music ; Vas rendered by the McDowel string iband. •" i Friday night prizes were awarded at Avondale and the committee there had made the school auditorium beau tiful With many flowers and potted plants. Prof. ~F. & Hall had secured a quartett composed of four young ' colored men of Avondale who de lighted the audience with a few num ibers. After the program was over j the committee with several others 'went to the colored people's church 'at Cliffside where they found the , colored people assembled and theii\ j church tastefully decorated for the occasion. There we heard again the quartett from Avondale with anoth er quartet from Boiling Springs. There was also a female quartet that rendered one good number. Just before Dr. S. E Whelchel of Avon dale, who also made a speech pro nounced the benediction all the col ored people sang one song that was much appreciated by the White peo ple. The awarding of prizes this year came as a surprise to many for they had thought because of the textile de pression that perhaps there would not be any prizes given this year. BOXER IN TRAINING. "Jack" Blanton, Cliffside'? 130 pound boxer, is working hard for a fight he has in view in Charlotte September Ist. He can be seen on the road every morning about 6:10 o'clock running a few steps to build up his wind. Blanton believes in hard work and clem living, but doesn't get enough bouts, to keep him in trim. However, he is anxious to go should anyone call. Jack believes that the proper a mount of exercise should be had to keep the mind working clearly. Since 1 e likes boxing he chooses that for his exercise. TANNER'S GROVE - s.". Forest City, R-2, Aug. 18.—The | revival meeting which has been goin°- 'on at Tanner's Grove Methodist | church came to a close last Friday night. The meeting was conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. P. Fikes. Some fine sermons ware preached. Those on the sick list are: Mrs. Bob Eaves and Mr. Ralph Green. We hope them a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Toms motor ed to Swannanoa one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Carroll and i children, Hattie and Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Huntley and son, Car rol, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Carroll, and son, A. P. Jr., spent Sunday after noon at the home of Mr. A. W Woods, near Henrietta. Mr. Wood had up lots of large fine watermelons which everyone enjoyed to the ut most. Mrs, Ralph Huntley and son, R. R. Huntley, Mrs, Ranson Huntley and son, Carroll Huntley, spent Fri day at the home of Mrs. Dave Green's. Mr. Walter Carroll, who has been at home for a few months visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Car roll returned to Florida last Wed nesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Lewis visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Green Saturday morning. Miss Annie Grose spent the week end with home people. An Hour Of Music At Baptist Church One of the most enjoyable occasions the music lovers of Forest City have had for some time was an organ re cital given in the First Baptist church Monday evening at eight, o'clock by Miss Frances Coleman, of Tulsa Okla., assisted by Mrs. Nell Padgett Norns, of Charlotte. Miss Coleman, who is organist in the First Baptist church, of Tulsa, Okla., is visiting friends in Forest City, and it was af ter she had received many requests that she gave this program. Mrs. N orris is a former Forest City girl, «nd is one of the county's most noted copranos. Miss Coleman at the organ played the following selections: "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," by Bach; Dawn" by Sheldon; "Serenade," by Schubert; "Gavotte in F", by Martini. Mrs. Norris then sung, in her usual impressive manner and accompanied by Miss Coleman at the piano for the first number and then at the organ, Love's in My Heart," by Woodman; j Thee » ,> by Caro Roma; and No Night There," by Danks. The remainder of the program con sisted of organ numbers, plaved by Miss Coleman, and wefre as follows: Rustic March," by Boex; "To a Wild Rose, MacDowell; "Emmaus," Fry singer, and the closing selection was , Largo", by Handel.
