J WHY PRINT A NEWSPAPER. ✓ The merchant who says that every-! one knows his place of business and | that he doesn't have to advertise, j can be found in Forest City, and in every other community in the coun try. This merchant also says that cus tomers come to him when in need of goods, so why should he waste his money advertising? An answer to j that question has been made by a j newspaper whose advertising man no doubt stumbled into places of business where the owner possessed that frame of mind. This newspaper answered the question, "Why Should I Advertise" as follows: "Of course, the newspaper man might say in rebuttal, 'Everyone in this community knows all that hap- I pens here, so what's the use of re porting the news; what's the use of printing a newspaper? If the com munityl can get along without a newspaper, it can get along without a number of other things which are j of value. The adults are educated | and can teach the children, thus do ing away with the need of schools. [ The parents, being religious, can j train the younger ones in the creed?, thus doing away with ministers and the churches. People can loan their money and thereby eliminate banks. They can swap their old clothes or learn how to make homespun, there by greatly reducing expense and ac tually putting the clothing merchant cut of business. All trade is based upon a desire for goods. Necessity is j mostly an augmented desire. Adver tising' has the function of reminding neople of their requirements, but its greatest function —a prime factor in all progress and prosperity—is the creating of new desires; thereby stimulating trade and production and making for the greatest degree of} employment."—Hamburg, lowa, Re-J porter.
