RUTHERFORDTON TAX RATE $1.65 Rate Remains Same as Last Year's Due to Sale of Wa ter and Light Plants. Rutherfordton, Nov. 17.—The tax rate for the town of Rutherfordton |for this year is $1.65 on each SIOO worth of taxable property and is the same as last year. The rate was recently adopted by the aldermen when they passed the budget for the town wnich was $163,875.94 for the period ending September 1, 1931. The town voted in September to sell its water and [light plants to the Southern Public '.Utilities Company for $295,000. Had the sale not have been made the tax rate would have gone up, dut to debts and improvements which must be met. The funds derived from the sale of the plants will be applied to the (town's indebtedness. It will possibly fbe around the first of the year be jfore the Southern Public Utilities Company takes active charge, due to working out some minor details here and at Spindale.
