PAGE SIXTEEN 1930 COTTON CROP 14,243,000 BALES Lowest Crop Report Given (£)ut This Year—Last Report. "Washington, Dec. B.—This year's cotton crop was estimated today Hoy the Department of Agriculture at 14,243,000 bales of 500 pounds gross weight based upon December 1 conditions. Last month 14,438,000 bales were estimated. Production last year was 14,828,000 baletj The estimated yield per acre is 150.8 pounds for this year com pared with an estimate of 154.2 pounds a month ago and 155.0 pounds produced last year. The department announced the acreage left for 'harvest was 45,218,-' 000 acres after abandonment of 2.1 j per cent of the 46,191,000 acre* in I cultivation July 1. The estimated production Vy, States follows: Virginia 42,000; North Carolina 795,000; South Carolina 1,040,000; Georgia 1,625,000; Florida 50,000; Missouri 160,000; Tennessee 400,000; Alabama 1,495,000; Mississippi 1,- 500,000; Louisiana 710,000; Texas 4,100,000; Oklahoma 900,000; Arkan sas 910,000; New Mexico 100,000; Arizona 160,000; California 250,000; all other States 6,000, and Lower California, Old Mexico (not includ ed in United States total). The report was the last of the year. MOORESBGRO R-l Mooresboro, R-l, Dec. B.—The song service at Race Path, was large ly attended Sunday night and as usual the singing was splendid. Af ter the song service the pastor, Rev. I. D. Harrill, preached a very in- spiring sermon. Race Path Sunday school has a fine record which any church should be proud of. There are 105 in the choir now 85 grown people and 20 children, a total of 105. We also had 187 in Sunday school Sunday. Misses Al&e Margaret and Marion j Wall, accompanied by Mr. Weldon i Wall, of Concord, were the week- j end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hen- \ drix. Mr. William Allhands, of Cliffside,! spent Sunday as the guest of Mr. f Cv/er. Padgett. j : Misses Effie and Essie Goode, Mr. Will Henson and Mrs. John Goode, spent Friday afternoon at Shelby and Kings Mountain. Miss Ophelia Hames, who has been nursing- Mrs. Zeno Wall, of Shelby, is visiting her parents. Mrs Wall is very much improved at this writing. Mrs. John Goode has returned home after a visit with her son, Mr. Edgar Gregg, of New House, and "her daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Gregg, were just recently married. Mr. Boyd Hames, who is a student at Boiling Springs college spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hames. A large number from this com munity attended "Trade day" at For est City, Monday. SULPHUR SPRINGS Forest City, V R-1, Dec. B—We were glad to have 77 present for Sunday school. Hope to have one hundred present next Sunday. Sever al attended the Sunday school con vention at Holly Springs, Sunday af ternoon. We hope to have a large number present, next Sunday night for B. Y. P. U. Some of the Caroleen B. Y; P. U. workers will be present to help organize 'general leaders for our unions. Mr. N. F. Wessinger went to Char lotte, Saturday for an operation on his head. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hopper ani children spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bland. Those on the sick list are Mrs. IX H. Kendrick and Mr. Britt Hop per. We hope for them a speedy re nvery. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mathis spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. L. Hop per. near Shiloh. Miss Fern Mills visited Misses Es telle and Joyce Bland, Sunday af ternoon. FERRY NEWS ; Infant Son of Mr. and "Mrs. Taylor Alexander Dead—"Local and Personal Items. ! Ferry, Dec. B.—Taylor T. Jr., the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Tay lor Alexander, of Duncan, S. C , was buried here Wednesday in the family cemetery near the home of Mr. W. P. Alexander. The child was ,tw> months and twenty-four days old living only long enough to endear itself in the hearts of the young j couple. .Rev. Howard Wilson, pastor of the Baptist church at Lyman, S. C., conducted the funeral services which was held in the home of Mr. W. P. Alexamder. The parents should not grieve for ;they have assurance of the child's peaceful testing place. j Rev. A. G. Kennedy and three children of Charlotte spent Thanks giving here with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hames and Crawford Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hames moved from here to Valley Falls, S. C., Monday where Mr. Hames has a position as operative in the Textile mill there. The B. Y. P. U. at Floyd's Creek gave an interesting program Sun day night. Some new members were added. Messrs. Jonah Honneycutt and Kelly Tate' left last Saturday for Lake \\ ales ; Fla., where they will be employed in the citrus groves. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wood of Alex ander and Mrs. D. G.
