Harrelson, director of the Department of Conservation and Development, who was scheduled to j speak, was unable to be present. On motion the Club adopted a resolution requesting the Seaboard Railroad to continue to maintain its depot at Bostic as &t present, and petitioned the railroad, to establish j a train for passenger service from j Rutherfordton to Charlotte, opera ting on an early morning schedule, and returning to Rutherfordton late in the afternoon. Rev. J. A. Hunnicutt extended an invitation to all to attend the Older; Boys' conference in Cliffside this ! week. The president, G. B. Howard, then turned the program over to the j chairman of the program committee, I David Lindsay, who presented J. Q. ! Mr. Mc— Clure urged the Club to take some action toward having fishing licen- j ses re-instated in this county, as the j fisheries department maintain the i hatcheries with this license fee, and carries on a large work with this sum. Dr. L. B. Morse stated that thousands took advantage of fish ing in Lake Lure daily, and many of them were from other counties. He pointed out that many of these came to Lake Lure to fish in order to evade the license fee in their j home, counties, and urged the license i tax to be re-instated in order to : eliminate much of this fishing. On motion to appoint a committee jto go before the commissioners in j regard to the matter, it was decided jto make the Izaak Walton League a j committee as a whole, and let them I work out plans for such conference with the commissioners, Prof. Clyde A. Erwin awarded prizes. to the three boys and three girls who won in the essay contest recently sponsored by the Izaak" Wal ton League. Christine Mcßrayer, of the Forest City grammar school was awarded a kodak as first prize; Pau line Ensley, of Brittain school, was awarded a year's subscription to Nature Magazine as second prize; and Dee Roberts, of the Oakland school, was given a croquet set as; third prize. In the boys' contest, 1 Davis Hunnicutt, of Cliffside, was ajyarded a rod and reel as first prize; James Pegram, of Oakland, a year's subscription to "Outdoor Life," as second prize, and Jame Wright, of Mt. Vernon, was given a Boy Scout knife, as third prize. A meeting of the board of direc tors was held immediately after the adjournment, at which time ~|some matters of a confidential nature were discussed. ALEXANDER NEWS Alexander Mill, April 20.—Rev. C. C. Matheny preached his first ser mon since his operation a few w*eeks ago, last Sunday morning. Everyone was glad to know that he had regain ed strength enough to deliver the sermon. Rev. E. P. White preached at the evening service. The Y. W. A's. entertained the young people of Alexander Satur day night by having a social. A very large crowd attended and every one enjoyed the social to the fullest ex tent. Rev. C. C. Matheny, Misses Vir ginia Baynard and Margaret Neai attended the B. Y. P. U. convention at Brevard Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Blanton of near Cliffside spent Saturday night with Mr and Mrs. Aaron Hamrick. 4 Mr. and Mrs. Gene Byrd and fam ily of Forest City, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neal, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. B. R. Hicks is in the hospital at Spartanburg where she will under , go an operation for goitre. Her many I friends hope that she will soon re j cover from the operation and be with us again. The intermediate department of the Sunday school is to have charge of the prayer meeting service Wed nesday night. Mr. J. B.
