Miss Nita ong.of Branchville, Va., who is enjoyinsr the first week of her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.1 W. J Loner, will leave this week for a visit to relatives of Lynchburg. Va. Mr. Herman Weaver, of the Honey Boy Minstrels, crave his parents here a glad surprise by dropping in on them unannounc ed last week. It was his first visit home in four .years. Busi ness engagements prevented oth- er than a brief stay at this time. Mr. Walter Rose, who was Beeking health in the mountains of Western North Carolina died in that section last week. His remains were forwarded home and he was interred in Pleasant Grove church yard. The last sad rites were performed by his pas tor, Dr. W. B. North. His be reaved sisters and brothers have our sincere sympathy. Miss Ernestine Lone; of Green ville, Fla., is visiting her school mate. Miss Lottie Stephenson. Rev. Rufus Bradley and little Bon of Williamston, delighted his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bradley, last week, by spending a few days in their cozy little home. Mr. J. L. Harris of Weldon. Bpent a day in this vicinity re cently, fishing. His efforts were rewarded with a large catch of perch, chub and other members of the finny tribe. Mr. James Taylor and wife of Gumberry were appreciated guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Long the past Sabbath. Mrs. A. M. E. Garris of Me herrin is spending some days with her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Norvell, assisting in nursing her grandson. Mr. Willie Norvell, whom we are sorry to report on the sick list again. Copius rains have fallen in this vicinity since our last writing and our fanners are wearing cheerful faces. Their crops are free from grass and everything, at present, seems as propitious as the most exacting could desire. We are sorry to chronicle the continued ill health of our towns man, Ex. Treas. J, G. L. Crock er. tie has been ailing .for some tnree weeks and while not sick enough to keep to his room, feels unfit for duty. Mr. Garland Grubbs of Suffolk, Va., paid a visit to his mother, Mrs. Lucie Grubbs, the past week. The W. M. Society of Seaboard Baptist church, met in regular monthly session at the home of Mrs. J. T. Long last Tuesday af ternoon. After the usual trans action of business, those present were ushered into the dining room, where delicious cream. cake, jelly etc. were served. All departed for their homes hoping Mrs. Long would invite the Soci ety again soon. ' Mrs. R.D.B.Maddrey is spend ing this week in Mapleton to be with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robt. Maddrey, who is slowly convalescing of typhoid fever. Pope & Long have just receiv' ed a new soda fountain, that will be in active operation in a few days now. Mrs. Henry Gay, after a long illness, died at her home near Mt. Carmel Baptist church the past Fridav. Her funeral was conducted at her late home by Rev. Ben Black, after which her remains were interred in the family cemetery. She leaves an aged husband, five grown sons, two daughters, and a number of grand children, besides other rel atives. To all the sorrowing ones ' we offer our sincere condolence in this painful separation. Miss Minnie Taylor, one of the faculty of Littleton Female Col lege is at her home in the coun try, enjoying a well earned vaca tion. Mr. Wendell Maddrey left Sat urday afternoon for a brief visit to friends in Norfolk, Va. He returned on night train No. 93 Sunday night. i Master Robert Jones, who has been quite sick with measles, we are glad to report improving. Mr. Vogie Harris, who has been visiting his father, Mr. Joe Harris, returned to his home in Norfolk, Va., Sunday afternoon. Tickets are being received here by friends, to the marriage of Mr. Green F. Gay to Miss Pattie L. Bowers, at her home in Hali fax County, N. C, at 10:30 A. M., June 21, 1911. The bride to be is the eldest daughter of Mr. Ezra Bowers, and a graduate of Chowan College, a woman of va vied accomplishments. Miss Bow ers has manv inends in this county that will hail her coming among them with keen delight. I Mr. Gay is too well and favorably j known in his home county to need any comment by this scribe, j but we cannot refrain from say-; ing that he is one of our safest ! and best men. Mr. Robt. Browne and family i of Garysburg were guests ofj Mrs. S. B. Harris the past Sun- j day. j Mr, Clellan Long of Norfolk, Va,. arrived last Wednesday to spend some weeks with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Long. Mr.Leary Stephenson of Ports mouth, who had been spending some days with his parents, left Sunday afternoon on No. 38, ac companied by his mother, Mrs. Alex Stephenson Old Zick.
