B Vick. Mr. C. W. Martin, Milwaukee was in town last Thursday and spent the night with Mr, J, Bridgers Dr. Geo. W. Mitchell and Mr, J. G. Bottoms spent the past Sunday at Panacea Springs. They made the trip in Dr. Mitchell' car. Mr A. A. RothBchild and Mr. WJJie Lundy, Emporia, were very welcome visitors in' the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Vick last Thursday night and Friday Mr. Lundy is Mrs. Vick's neph ew and this was his first visit to Northampton. Mr. J. T. Bridgers, who hast been very sick during the sum mer, is considerably improved and his friends enjoy having him among them again. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Vick, ac companied by Mrs. Rothschild left Sunday for Panacea Springs. Mrs. Jas. R. McLendon spent several days last week in the hospitable home of her friend, Miss Mollie Taylor, Mt Carmel. Mr. D. C. Barnes and sister. MiBS Sarah, Dr. Geo. N. Harrell Murfreesboro, and Mr. Jack Har rell, Potecasi. are guests today (Tuesday) in the magnificent home of Dr. and Mrs, R.H. Stan cell. Mrs. Edward K. Ueberry and infant, Julia Frances, who have been on the sick list for the past two weeks are improved. Mrs. A. d. Spivey endured a alight stroke of paralysis last week. She is up, however. ' Mr. Richard Watson, Mur freeeboro. arrived Monday with Dr. R. H. Stancell's new touring car. ' We extend much sympaty to Mr. Will Barnes. Francisville, in the death of his wife last week Mrs. Barnes was ill for weeks of typhoid fever. She left several little children who will so keenly miss her. May God comfort and strengthen the faithful husband and little ones in this great hour of sorrow. The W. C. T. U. services were very highly enjoyed here on last Sunday P. M. The most inter esting program was rendered. which consisted of song, scrip ture reading.recitation, dialogue, addreseeB, etc. The addresses were indeed enjoyed by all pres ent, and the Union is greatly en couraged when young men man- if est interest. The managers of the entertainment deserve great credit. Woodland Locals. The gold Medal contest under the auspices of the W. C. T. U. will befciven here Thursday even ing of this week, beginning at eight o'clock. Each of the con testants has won a silver medal and this will be the most interest ing one given yet as each mem ber of the contest is especially gifted in elocution. A large au dience is desired. After the en tertainment refreshments will be served by the members of the W. C.T. U. Miss Jessie Blanchard left Mon day for Rozobel to attend a house party given by Mrs. Willis Rid dick of Suffolk, Va. Misses Annie Futrell and Nell Bentball and Mr. R. B. Two of the Northampton coun ty convicts were brought here last Saturday to begin work Mon day on the public roads of Rich Square Township. Mrs. Alex Boyette and daugh ter Miss Ruth are visiting friends in PhoebuB and Virginia Beach. Mrs. Estelle Joyner of Winton is spending sometime here with friends. MissVerna Joyner of Aulander is visiting Miss Jessie Griffin. Mrs. Bettie Williams Taylor of Union is the guest of Mrs. J. P. Griffin this week. George Hews. Misses Blannie and Courtney Brown of Lasker spent the week end with their cousin, Elizabeth Brown. Miss Sallie Futrell of Rich Square visited at Mr, C. T. Out land's Saturday and Sunday. Miss Annie Biownof Menola spent several days the past week with Beulah JesBup. Mr. David Copeland of Bridge port, Indiana, who went- from this county more than forty years ago. is visiting at Mr. A. U. Copeland's. His son, Albert, who is a prominent minister in the Friends church at Cincinnati, Ohio, is here also. Mr. W. T. Brown and sister, Miss Anna, spent Monday night at Mr. T. C. Peele's near Rich Square. , Mr. Arthur Outland of Phila delphia and his sister, Miss Gulia, dined at Mr. C. T. Outland's last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jessup called on Mrs. Sarah Parker near Eagletown last Sunday after noon. They reported that the road on the Cuttawhiskey swamp dam was almost impassable. Mr. James Brown of Menola was in tnis neignbornood the past week threshing wheat and oats. He found the crop very light Those haying threshing done were: J. W. Jessup, J. El- wood Boyce, A. W., B. P. and W. Jordan Brown and W.J. Par ker. Crops in this vicinity are look ing fine at this time. Late corn and cotton, however, on land where the soil is not deep, will suffer for rain before many days. Mr. E. L. Vick is improving the appearance of his residence a great deal by treating it to a nice new coat of white paint Mr. W. J. Brown is having 8omeo!d houses remodeled and some new ones built in order to accommodate those working in the basket factory here, unless we are favored with a good soaking ''season." Mrs. Betty Sue Lassiter, wife of Mr. H. T. Lassiter, who has been in very poor health for more than a year, passed away last Wednesday about eleven o'clock.
