G. Stancell. Chairman; J. T. Bolton and C. J. Garriss, with S. J Calvert, Clerk. Dr. W. E. Futrell, County Health Officer, made his report of work during July. R. R. Barrett, Superintendent of County Home and Infirm made his monthly report. There was a balance due him of $45.40 for July expenses, and an appropria tion of 8350 was made for Aug. N. C. About four - thirty, children, grand children and great grand- cnildren began arriving at the home of Nathan E. Griffin for this happy get-together of Grif fins. By five-thirty, the table which was built under the shade of the trees was loaded with barbecue, fried chicken, sand wiches, potata salad, pickles, hot rolls, bread, tea, lemonade, pies, cake and ice cream. The family assembled about the table and Prof. Hugh C. Griffin|of Raleigh, N. C., who was master of cere monies, asked Dr. C. F. Griffin of Suffolk, Va., to return thanks for the many blessings received. Prof. H. C. Griffin gave the history of the Griffin family which was rather brief but in teresting, in closing he recalled to the minds of all, the sweet memory of the dear, Christian father and mother and loving grandparents, the late James H. and Elizabeth Griffin, Mrs. W. J. Griffin of Woodland gave a toast for those who have come into the Griffin family. Mr, Raleigh Griffin responded to this with a humorous and appropriate toast. Mr. J. P. Griffin respond ed to all. After much eating and talk ing, Mrs. J. E. Griffin called two brothers. Dr. C. F. Griffin and Mr. J. P, Griffin to choose sides and nave everyone present to enter into various contests, stunts and games. These stunts were greatly enjoyed, it was decided that Mr. J. P. Griffin’s side won. Ur. C. F. Griffin was made chairman of the next reunion which will be held the last Fri day in July 1927. Miss Mane Griffin was elected secretary, Mrs. J. E. Griffin chairman of the entertainment committee, Messrs J. P., R. M., and R. H, Griffin for arrangements. At eight-thirty everyone gath ered into the living room and on the porch and sang the old familiar songs of long ago. There were 39 present and 14 absent—only three of the child ren of the late James H. and Elizabeth Griffin survive them, there were present, namely; Dr. C. F. Griffin. N. E, Griffin and J. P. THE FIRST STEP TO PROGRESS The first step was taken yes terday by the mass meeting of citizens at the Dixie Theatre to ward an era of great prosperity and progress when it emphati cally went on record as approv ing the purchase unlimited elec tric power at wholesale, and in structed the Board of Commis sioners to proceed to execute contract when same had been ap proved by a committee of citi zens sitting with the Board of Commissioners- By all means the contract should be right and should be approved after careful consider ation before being adopted, but there should be no otner delay on the part of the commissioners in ratifying the will of the peo ple as expressed by that fine body of progressive citizens i.i meeting yesterday, and there can be no doubt but what that course will persued, and the town of Scotland Neck be defi nitely listed among the progres sive communities of Northeast ern North Carolina, and be plac ed on a par with Piedmont North Carolina to compete for manu facturing industries. —The Scotland Neck Common wealth. “The men who try to do som,- thing and fail are ir finitely bet ter than those who try to do nothing and succeed.” NOTICE North Carolina, ( In the Su- Northampton County f perior Ct.
